murder at my house

Bridgewater, ME

I came home today and looked at the coop as I allways do and seen feathers outside the fence, not a good sign,my husband forgot to close the top of the fence and one of my hens flew out and the dog got her.I left the dog out to guard the chickens from the fox that are around.Guess I should have left him in and took my chances. He tried to bury it in about four different places, never did see a body don`t know what he done with it,needless to say he will never go to the coop with us again,I felt so bad she never even got a chance to lay an egg. These were my first chickens,I got them when they were a day old. green04735

So sorry to hear your news. I hope that you do have some other chickens still in your coop. Dogs can be that way - it's so heartbreaking though, to experience it like this. It happens to the best of us and try not to feel bad - just try to learn from it all and remember to check that things are closed, etc. If your dog only got one, then really you probably should look on the bright side that at least he didn't get all of them...

I know that's cold comfort right now. Best wishes to you and the rest of your flock.

Green, better your dog than the fox. You will be OK. Would you like some new chickens?

No thanks on the extra chickens,I`m glad he only got that one.I watched him this morning and he went right to where he had hidden it and I went down and scolded him,now I have to take care of the poor thing. My husband and I looked high and low yesterday for that chicken so he could take care of it before he left to go on the road(He`s a truck driver).
