orchid catus swap???

Marks, MS(Zone 7b)

Have you guys ever had an orchid cactus/epi swap? I mean the whole forum...not just one person to another. If not, is it something you guys have ever concidered? I think it would be something interesting and fun. Im just not sure how to organize it. Just imagine all the cool cuttings....lol.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I would be ready for one next summer. Most of my plants are still very small. but with over a 100 kinds of epis I will have something for every one. I am not good a organizing things but would be glad to take part later own.

OK...perhaps come spring we will have to find a way to organize this. I don't really have many orchid cactus, but lots of rhipsalis I would be willing to trade.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Sounds good.

(Zone 1)

I look forward to a Spring Swap! I have a couple of Rhipsalis too!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I will see how mine are growing. but I should be able to take a few cuttings by spring. Plus thanks to the squirrels I have a number of unnamed plants. All are bright colored day bloomers.

(Zone 1)

Oh, I would love to have a day bloomer! I have a couple of noids I got in trades two years ago but they were just cuttings and I don't know the names. I am hoping that at least one is a day bloomer!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

let me know what color you would like and I will see what I have.

I have just discovered epi's and would love to do this. I have a pot of noids and a nice sized fruhlings gold that I got from a nursery a few months ago. It was in bloom and was beautiful which is pretty much what got me interested in them. It sound like they are fairly easy to take care of. Do you all find this is pretty much the case with these?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes long as you do not over or underwater them.

I should warn you that they are like potato chips, once you start you can't stop. I have over a hundred and I just get another piece that I can make at less 6 cuttings. I call the disease Episitis

I found that my American Beauty one of the dragon fruit had two pieces broken off. Each piece is large enough to make two cuttings. Any one interested please let me know. First come gets one. Those darn squirrels have been playing in my shade house again.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

Could I have one pleeeeze? Ya know it is actually a good thing to be an enabler on Daves's -------

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

D-mail me your address and I will send it to you. It should be ok in a bubble envelope.

(Zone 1)

Wren, I sent you d-mail.

I think the disease "Episitis" is very contagious! I'm catching it! ^_^

North Port, FL(Zone 9b)

Can I have one too please. I have just recently discovered epis and I love them!!!!!!!

Annette

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Seed me a D-mail. I will send you one. Just remember this is a dragon fruit and it is different looking, I do not know a lot yet about growning them.

I now still have one cutting left, that I know of I have to go see what else those darn squirrels have messed up.

I'm game. Lets do this, is this what a round robin is?

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

This thing can have a length of over 50 feet? Wow! This is going to be one interesting plant. Am really excited about getting the opportunity to grow it.

Pawleys Island, SC

I do have some oxypetalum and strictum that are big enough to trade now and I have some red and some purple dragon fruit rooting. I am always game for a swap.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I still have a total of three unclaimed American Beauty. The squirrels broke off all but one new growth. I think this plant should proble be grown as a basket plant.

My other dragon fruit "County road" is robust I don't think even my dog could put a dint in it. This one is a fast grower. I will take a couple of cutting off it in the spring. I have a third one but the squirrels stole the label and I can't figure out which on it is.

Pawleys Island, SC

Wren, I would love to have one of your American Beauty Dragon fruits. I have vietnamese red and purple star if you would like to trade. Please dmail me. Thanks, Linda

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I sent you a d-mail will send you another one

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I sent out the cuttings. I still have one more. It is younger and thinner that the other so I did not cut it. It is about 6-8 inches. I also have a bunch of squirrels that any one wants they can have. You can d-mail me if you would like the cutting, you would have to come and catch the squirrels thought my dog almost get one today.

I think I am going to make a cage for the mother plant. It is not a robust as the other two dragon fruits that I have.

I will not have any more cuttings until spring (unless the squirrels decide to have more games in my shade house.) I would like all the plants to get larger and tougher before I remove any growth.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

all the broken pieces that I had are gone. I should have some regular cutting come spring(unless the squirrels have a nother party among my plants.)

Please let me know if the cuttings I sent out do not arrive in good shape or do not root and I will gladly send replacements. This is the first time that I have sent cuttings and sense paid day is next week(should have waited) I used bubble envelopes. next week I am going to buy a supply of mailing boxes incase those squirrels have another party.

On this topic would any one be interested in knowing what each of us have so we know what we might have next year to swap. Of course in my case it would be a whole thread full. I am afraid to count them. I have about new 20 cuttings to pot up and another 11 on the way-----someone please stop me!!!!
I will not buy any more
I will not buy any more
I will not buy any more----I don't think it is working.
I will not buy any more until I get the new green/shade house finished!!!!!
Oh well I could be addicted to something that was harmful so I guess it is not to bad being addicted to epis.

Pawleys Island, SC

Wren, I think that is a great idea. The ones that I know will be big enough are e.strictum, e.oxypetalum, h.undatus "vietnamese red, h undatus, " purple star", Selenicereus coniflorus, selenicereus chrysocardium,( sp),
april shower and black light.
I also have about 30 different cuttings that I am rooting now. I don't think they will be large enough to cut by then though.
I also have several pots of noid's. I know the colors,(are pink, reds, and white) but not the varieties. Linda

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Most of mine wont be large enough in the spring but by next fall they will be. Until I get my green/shade house done and at the rate I am going it will be next winter I will need to keep the growth under control. I will get back to y'all later I just notice the time and I have to go visit dad at the hospital.
