The telephone company injured my Siam Ruby!!

Garden Grove, CA(Zone 10a)

Verizon worked in my backyard to install an additional utility wire above my garden, because a neighbor added a new line. I watched as he threw the wires and it dragged on a few of my plants. Today I noticed a large, fairly new leaf from my Siam Ruby banana tree was torn off (hanging by a thread). I nurtured and cherish that plant and they recklessly did this. Thanks for listening.

I would call and complain big time. I had a dish installed and the guy threw the old one on top of my pumpkin patch. Complain!

I'd definitely call and complain--at the very least it might make you feel better, and they ought to know that their technicians are out there being careless with people's property.

This is why I stand over those guys when they come into my yard to work on the lines. I point out my plants, I explain the cost of them, and assure them that I will be most appreciate if they leave without breaking anything. It usually works. I often give these guys plants to take home too.
I know it's a real bummer when they break something precious. My DH is still paying for whacking a tip off one of my prized plumeria when he was trimming the hedge - and that was last year :-D

LOL too funny. I can relate. My hubby makes me go out and stay with him. He is too afraid of messing with the plants.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh! How horrible, I can relate too! Not as much for the cost of the plants but because I also cherish each and everyone of my plants and I can't stand it when these "animals" come and step over everything...
If it makes you feel better, go ahead and complain! Hopefully your siam ruby will be fine.

I just got this one, myself, so I can relate!

Maybe it will pup after this.....I've read that many bananas do so after they're damaged.

I'd complain, too....good luck!

I feel for you, I hate it when things like that happen.
We have to have our roof redone, planning on having it done this month..... I tremble to the thought of having guys throwing old roofing down into the yard. Aaarghhhh!!!

Thanks for the support. It will be fine with only one less healthy leaf, but it's the principal. I have heard horror stories of actual "professional" gardeners messing up nice plants too. Anyone had this happen here?

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Well I am no professional , but I have messed up plenty of my own plants by accident lol. In fact I think I am their worst enemy sometimes.

A friend's husband recently cut off two beautiful limbs of her plumeria (both has starting inflos) because he couldn't get to the pool pump.
Jeez, you'd think he'd get his priorities right??
He is MAJOR big time in the doghouse!

Oh I'd definitely be complaining, regardless of how much or little damage. When we had our fence installed I watched like a hawk. Unfortunately they decided that damaging my neighbors yard was OK in the process - ugh.

As for the husbands trimming the plumeria - Yikes! My wife isn't into plants like me, but I think she's figured out which plants I like the most - she avoids those, LOL.

Argh! When I first moved in to my house I planted flower bulbs all over the place....every contractor that came over made sure to step on all the emerging leaves despite my watching and constantly asking them to be careful...What's wrong with these people! lol!
