What are you doing while you wait?
Hunkered down for Ike?
I'm hanging out online making nervous posts and washing clothes so I have plenty of clean underwear :)
I may bake another loaf of bread and maybe start dinner so there's something ready in case we don't have power at dinner time.
lol I'm playing online, we drove around town to see the water level. I've washed all the clothing but might change the sheets. DH took out a flat iron steak for dinner from the freezer, have no idea what I'll do with it since I tossed most of the veggies out and no peppers ripe on the plant so fajita's are out.
I'm like everyone else...washing clothes and impatiently waiting. Not that I want the storm, but it's coming and I just want to get it over with!
Pretty much feel the same, we had one of the kids on our street (I say kid, late teens early 20's maybe) play stuntman on his bike, racing down and doing wheelies...I went outside to chew him out *LOL* guess he thought since most of the old peple had gone he was safe. He saw me standing and pointing my finger and he went back to his house and went inside. I now feel like my Mother.
It has sprinkled a bit and we had harder winds earlier than now.
I have bread rising and baked some blueberry muffins.
I'm with the both of you, I wish it was over already.
We've had some light wind gusts and gloomy skies, then the sun comes for a few minutes then it's gloomy again. Nothing much to report.
Waiting..waiting..
Still waiting here...
eating.../finally. spent the last 2 days boarding my windows and securing my stock--I might very well sleep thru it.
Same with us Prickle but no steady rain yet. I've started dinner so we can go ahead and run the dishwasher after and bring the grill in. I'm not baking bread, the DH can just eat sunbeam! But I do have some boxed brownies that might get whipped together...ahh cause those eggs are gonna go bad anyways..yeah that's the reason...

Thinking of you all and hoping and praying for your safety and as little damage as possible.
I'm waiting...waiting for the wind and the rain. We've gotten everything that could fly around out in the yard secured either inside our sunroom, the shed or in a secure area outside. Just playing online, doing a bit of cross stitching, & watching TV.
The wind has picked up considerably and the lights have flickered a bit.
Our power seems to go out with the drop of a hat at the best of times. I think it's going to be a long couple of days.
please, all of you, stay safe. i'm sending the very best thoughts i can muster down your way. i think it's gonna be a long hard haul for everyone there.
Have put the plywood on the windows and taken in all the projectile potential things in the yard. Have been watching the news all day, all hurricane information and finally popped some popcorn and watched a movie on DVD. Now I have opened a bottle of wine and am settling in for the long haul. (hope I am not starting too soon!} We don't see anything as of yet just a few wind gusts of 35 mph. Know it is going to get worse. I have big pine and oak trees in my yard, some of which hang over the house. Hey, I could use a new roof anyway!
Yeah, we could use a new roof, too. I'd rather not get one this way, but hey, all these years with State Farm, and no claims...............
aranas - I like your excuse to bake! I think I'll put a cake in the oven.
Ya'll be safe!
check in please...anyone heard from smockette...she's in sugarland...

I am so worried about all of you in the path. I hope you are all safe.
here's the main check in list on the weather forum so it's not too confusing. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/902585/#new
Were o.k., no house damage, no leaks. One flower bed wiped out by a 90 ft. pine tree.

I'm made it!
We're running the laptop off the car battery. Phones came back yesterday. We have water and gas for cooking. But no power.
They say we won't have power until Oct 5.
I'm washing clothes in a bucket with a plunger. Those old back issues of The Mother Earth News I bought when I was 17 are finally paying off :)
Made it! Finally have power back on here. One tree down but luckily it fell away from all structures. Home is okay. ;) I'm so glad to be back home.
Prickly do you have power yet? We were told we wouldn't have power for a month or more. We got it back a lot sooner.

I've been in touch with araness during this entire time and talked with her again this morning. They have power! :) No phones yet, but thank goodness for cells. We only lost connection with each other for a short time. Things were spotty for a couple of days, though.
I'm sending prayers and best wishes to everyone!

Becky.....did you are anyone hear from Smockette (Linda) yet? I don't remember seeing her name on any of the Ike threads.
Power on, yay!
I'm wondering about Smockette (Linda) too. Anybody heard from her?
Lin
We came through ok with just two large downed trees and lots of tree branch debris. Also had some flooding and ruined carpeting when the cool front blew through Sunday a.m. and brought the rain because of clogged drains from Hurricane debris. Did not loose our water and for electricity we had a generator so all and all we are counting our blessings. The cool weather was a God send or it would have been unbearable with no air conditioning. My thoughts are with everyone who went through this. People everywhere have been great. Helping and taking care of one another.
Bonnie
Someone I think mentioned talking to Smockette on the weather check-in thread.
Good, thanks Kim.
