I have an apparently healthy Queen of the Night (she has 8 buds right now), which grew three very long stalks last year. The stalks have very few leaves, but one of those leaves has a bud. These stalks are so long that they're in the way, and I'm wondering if it would make any difference to the plant if I were to cut them off.
Should long stalks be cut off my epi?
You can prune your epis after it blooms. And you can root the cuttings. The stalks are a pain but they make nice cuttings. I would be careful and not cut off to many of the "leaves" as they are where your blooms start.
Thanks, wren. I'll do that. I've already started some new plants from cuttings I took off months ago, but I left most of the stalks intact. They're now over 4' long.
I think they help the plant in the wild climb.
