OK, so first I want to talk about the wing problem. Here is my little defective chick.
I call him/her "Boeing" because it looks like an airplane all the time.
Some new chick pix and flipping and wing problem
Any suggestions on what I can do for him? Will he be OK?
Oh, forgot to take a photo of the flip of the first pretty one. Yesterday it was both legs, the day before it was 1 leg, and today it's back to 1 leg. Go figure...
What stock did your pretty one's have to have come from again?
I wonder if that folding on the first was something in-shellero, maybe it will grow out? It seems like it should if encouraged, and if the trouble's not in the bone... Never seen that before.
Well, as I understand it from the original owner, the original flock consisted of light brahmas, black australorps, easter eggers (might be real ameraucanas), and barred rocks. BUT, there are a couple of golden birds in there that don't fit those breeds really. And a bunch of the hens I have from him are mixes from his flock. Oh, and I have 14 hens from him and I'm getting an average of 3 eggs a day. So I don't think (well obviously) every hen is laying. Maybe some are too old? I am a bit clueless about their ages, their histories, etc. Here is one of the gold birds that doesn't seem to fit his original flock types.
So maybe they are possible moms? I still don't know who is laying and who isn't. Grumble...
BTW, "in shellero" is very funny and clever!
It's called speaking with too much concision...lol.
# 3 looks like my ideal bird for the Legbar experiment. Google dilution or better still check out the genetics link I added to the bird link thread. That's what kinna blue-egger I want. (Nuthin' like a little obsessing....)
I don't even know if she's a blue egger!
Love number 3 What a beautifu girl makes me want some more yard chickens "pretty and very healthy lookin"
Thanks Harmony! She's one of my favorites! Just a mutt-mixed-breed kind of chicken, but pretty and in good condition. A couple of the birds I got from that deal were not healthy at all and they are isolated now and trying to grow their feathers back. Two light brahmas with no back feathers at all. Sad girls. Must've been favorites of the roo I guess. But then I saw them biting on their own wings. I am hoping they will improve now that they are isolated and not pecked. I also put the rooster booster stuff on them to stop them pecking themselves. I can see some feathers poking through the skin now.

Claire had to mention Good luck with your Chicks it was fun.
ok THANKS FO RTHE HEAD SHOTS, FIRST IS PEA COMBED, SECOND STANDARD. sorry bout thte caps, catscans fault...
ok, first looked like she could be laced, just like gold bird number one.
second looked more partidge.
this is what i am thinking from what suzescott said on genetics... catscan will fill in here...
the gold you are seeing is from a diluted or buff gene... it affected the three different breed/color hens differently... so at some point he had a roo in there with some buff genes....
wish i knew on his wing... looks weird, not even frizzled, though some kind of mutation is a possiblity here...
