Just a little thread to explain myself and perhaps apologize to those whom I may have offended.
I did not in any way mean to offend and my only purpose was to give direction to someone who was looking for it. I am a linguist and do not think of language in terms of how foul or dirty it is unless it is used with the intent of being foul or dirty. As that was not at all the case (and as I think so much of all of you here) I didn't hide my reference behind innuendo. Most foul language actually started out significantly more innocuous than the current perception and it was this background which was being studied. I also (sadly) have met too many people who do not have the cultural background which includes these references or their context and felt the reference needed to be clear.
Again, I hope I have not too greatly offended as I enjoy this forum and your company very VERY much. Kelly

I read the thread and I see no problem. Some people do take things in different context and I know that you meant no offense. Because we are all from different cultures and backgrounds means that we can all learn new things from each other.

No worries Harmony. I'm quite sure nobody was offended. We're all used to hearing MUCH worse at our workplace, walking down the street, listening to the TV, etc, etc. It doesn't even approach swearing or anything like that. Heck, even my law professors use words in class that surprise me, like "That's just bull____" when referring to a court decision, etc. I think we all took it as just another chicken related phrase. :-)

To explain once more. When i signed up i checked the box where it says i agree to follow all the rules set forth by Daves Garden. There are many that may visit here and we may not even know it.
Yes iam aware grow did not mean to offend.
I didn't want anyone to get in trouble with management especially grow as i like her but my attempt at this has went a rye and now i think i have been referred to as a p___ I didn't sign up to be given a label or to be a moniter and should i guess kept my opinons to myself.
I think the poultry forum is not for me at this time but i have subscribed and will be as soon as i recieve confirmation on that i will be at other forums if managment see's fit to indeed grant me the privalidge to stay after this. Management i do sincerely apoligize and will hope i will be allowed to subscribe as this is a wonderful informative site and i feel i can bring alot to it as well learn alot too. Sincerely Harmony

Harmony, since you are low on d-mails I need to speak to you here on a public forum and I would appreciate it if all my chicken friends did not beat up on harmony right now..
We are a good bunch of people who are all hard working, fun loving joksters. This has been carried a little too far.. but in defense of my buddies here Harmony, I must say it could have been handled a whole lot better than a snipped demand that grownut immediatly remove the comment. If you were offended or worried that someone would be down the road a nice reminder would have been all it would have taken.. we have each gently nudged each other in the past when it was neccessary.. I believe the turnoff was in the way it was handled.
I think we should all consider this a romp in the "pigs pen" we all got a little dirty.. now lets go shower.. leave this thread to die a quick death and have our friendships reborn..
I believe Harmony has a lot to offer as does Grownut and each of us... now lets go play nice... grow a little tougher skin.. and move on... PLEASE>>

Harmony, if you are really feeling this way and we have all upset you this much, Daves does give full remaining balance refunds... I am sorry that we all have seemed to dissapoint you, but it does seem as if no matter what any of us have said in the last 24 hours you have gone mad over it.. I don't get it.. But I agree.. it is best to allow you to slip away.. I for one will miss your wisdom.. but I will not miss this side of you.

I didn't know i had gone mad over anything and i knew what you mean't that everyone should move on and let this go i had no idea i started all this and i cry at the words you have written and as the tears fall i only wanted to be helpful and i'm sooooo sorry and i don't know anything else to say.
OK, this is just extremely sad and a loss for EVERYBODY. Can we just let bygones be bygones?
1) There was a misunderstanding.
2) Harmony was concerned and is new to the forums and trying to follow the rules.
3) There was some overreaction perhaps on all sides.
4) We are all adults, we know how to deal with conflict.
5) We all LOVE chickens and other birds and have a common interest.
I really really really wish that Harmony would not leave because she has much to teach us, and has already taught us so much and I have learned great new things. I cannot believe that a little linguistic misunderstanding could lead to the loss of a valuable member of our forums.
I for one do not believe that Daylilydaddy's comment was directed at Harmony, but if it was, I believe it was uncalled for. But regardless, one person saying a potentially insulting thing should not be enough to make anyone leave these forums, and I for one know this because one of my early threads started a complete uproar that was unintended. But, I said to myself "We are all different and I embrace differences just as I embrace commonalities" and I just carried on in my own way.
If anyone was going to be in trouble for the word that was placed in the chicken language thread, it was grownut, and she would have handled that in her own way.
I just can't stand to see such conflict among a group who is so friendly, funny, helpful, sharing, caring, and special to me, and to everyone here.
Can we not just shake hands and all be friends? Life is not about turning backs and causing divisions just because of differences in opinions. It is about coming together and sharing and laughing and learning and all that good, warm, fuzzy stuff.
PLEASE reconsider your decision Harmony. I really ask you on behalf of myself (very selfish of me!), because I have learned so much from you already, but I am sure the rest of the group would love to have you stay with us.

I agree... the written word can easily be misunderstood. The infliction in voice and facial expressions say so much. Harmony, please don't go. Can't we all just get along?

I did not mean to call anyone here a pig.. I was using a metaphor of us rolling in a pig-pen, never meaning that any one person was actually a pig.. so to the person who took offense I was NOT speaking of you or anyone in particular!
I have 100 chicks to take care of.. this has totally gotten out of control.. is about the most childish thing I have had the priviledge of being a part of since high school..
So, I will now take my toys and go home.. and I hope when I return, you all have tidied up the playground.. and I pray that term (playground) is acceptable to all.

I have no idea either, as I have been absent awhile. Life getting in the way. I think I may have seen what happened; and read between the lines. However, I agree with Claire - the thread Claire is speaking of did get out of control, as did a few others about the same time. We all got past it. And Claire, I must say, YOU DID A GREAT JOB ON THAT ONE! I think we all did a great job then.
I think a lot of us just have our plates full with everything we try to do, for our families, our fowl & other animals and ourselves (being this forum). I hope Harmony comes back. We need everyone's help getting through all the different things that come up. What one has not encountered, another 2 or 3 have....

i hope noone leaves, dave's is a great family and nothing is worth leaveing over, this is truely an awesome site to join together and be a part of with one another. i have had a few tiffs here myself , who hasn't but ya know my friends here is what kept me here. this really is a great bunch chicken/garden friends, i wouldn't trade any of ya for the world. we have so little members that visit this board please don't let one little miss understanding ruin it for any of u. u r all loved here, and great friends to many of us and we look forward to hearing from all of u, each in ur own way, all the members together here is what makes such a great dave's family and a awesome poultry forum.

i lost a bestfriend to my family on the 9th due to cancer and was burried sept 11th. he was 36, i think it was. life is to short i don't want to loose anymore friends than i need too. i lost another, one of my best friends on aug 8th, she had a different cancer. so please hugs to all, let bye gones be gone and lets have fun talking chookies!!!!

Wow.....I don't know what in the world I missed. As Cheryl ~Pea said we all get so busy with so much to do and take care of that it is wonderful to be able to come here to DG's and be with friends and share.....whether it be about all our many critters or our lives. My life right now has been nutso busy which is why I have missed all the goings on.
Harmony.......I have not had time to stop by DG's in a while and haven't had a chance to read any of your threads but I do look forward to it. I have no idea what was said but I too had a 'run in' several months ago.....it was talked about and discussed, bad feeling were put to rest and as far as I know all is fine now. I hope you reconsider leaving. The people on this site are some of the most wonderful and caring people I have ever had the chance to talk with and I have missed talking with them very much!
