This is a beginner tulip question, sorry if others have asked the question.
How do I tell from the botanical name of a tulip if it is a "species tulip". I am getting ready to buy a large number of bulbs for naturalizing and don't want to make the mistake of ordering some beautiful blooming bulbs only to find out that they won't be back year after year.
Thank you in advance
How to Differentiate Species Tulips from Hybrids
You can not tell from the name. Tulips are divided over 14 different groups. The Classified list has the type listed if a variety is a Single Early, Lilyflowering, Fosteriana, or other type of Tulip.
Species tulips will normally be sold by the species name (e.g. Tulips tarda or T. sprengeri), or if they are cultivars thereof, from a "species tulips" section of the catalogue.
Their wild are good for a few seasons, you can always dig and seperate.

Perennial - These are good for 2 to 3 years.
