CLOSED: Have tropicals but need flowering perenials
Sorry about your mess with Gustav...Have a friend in Port Allen,La that got hit pretty bad too...
I'm looking for a Plumeria...Maybe san pedro de luc or a NOID one...
Don't know if I have anything you'd want...Take a look at my have list...
Have some of the daylilies avail on my have list that says not avail....Just ask if interested...
I also have some lilies that are not listed..
That I'd be willing to trade for a plumeria....
If there's anything in paticular your looking for just ask I might have it...I don't have everything listed...
If interested D-mail me....
I have lots of daylilies but I do like your Sicilian Honey Lily (Nectaroscordum siculum). Do you have any extra?
I'd love to have Alocasia Hilo beauty or odora.
I have Fountain Butterfly Bush/Buddleja alternifolia from your want list- but don't have any rooted - only softwood cuttings.
Planting this was an experiment for me. It bloomed beautifully it's second year, but last year and this year were a bust, as the winters killed the old growth.
It re-grows each spring...but blooms on old wood.
I've never rooted cuttings of this, so can't attest to how easily they're rooted.
I'm really looking for plants but if you are willing to take a small odora I will take cuttings. Butterfly bush is supposed to root easily so I will try it. My address is in the exchange, let me know if you would like to trade.
Small is fine with me, really, (preferred, actually!) and I can send several cuttings so you have more chance of success with rooting.
My address is in the exchange, also.
I'll send you a d-mail.
Thanks!
Yes I do
I bought them as Allium Mediterranean Bells - Allium siculum (Nectaroscordum)
They told me they wouldn't multiply easy as their from the Allium family.....Wrong...
How many do you want??
Thanks
Phyllis
Living in Hurricane Country I can relate to the damage those storms can do! We had Charley, Frances and Jeanne come through here within a 5 week period in 2004 and took out many large trees. We replanted with Queen Palms because they seem to bend and sway in high winds.
If you still have any available, I'd be interested in Alocasia 'Hilo Beauty', Colocasia esuclata 'Illustris' and Xanthosoma atrovirens Variegatum.
I have: Bletilla striata (Chinese Ground Orchid): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/671/
I also have: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139/ both the lavender color and white
I can send you good clumps of all of the above and I will check around tomorrow to see what else I can find. Even if you don't have any small plants of those I am interested in I can still send you a few things to get your now sunny garden going! Isn't this garden of sharing a wonderful place? I think it's so nice that we can share our stories as well as our plants ... and of course friendship!
Lin
You have Dmail.
My DH had herniated disk. By the time he had surgery, it was so bad he had to crawl to get around. I hear some people have to go back to have another surgery years later. Not looking forward to that again. I myself had ACL reconstruction in Jan and it still hurting. Next time, I'm getting knee replacement!

Don't know if your in Ike's path if you are... please stay safe and dry...
lilsista59, sounds good to me. Not sure how I will send a plumeria with full leaves but I will figure it out. Ike is not supposed to damage us much. We are getting some of the outer bands which means rain and wind but other than that we shouldn't lose anymore trees.
Plantladylin, I love agapanthus and they do really well here. I've also wanted ground orchids for some time now. I will send all three to you. Do you have any Nun's orchids? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1249/ I have some extra pups if you would like some of those to go with your other ground orchids. We've been losing oaks with every storm it seems. We lost two this time and one with Katrina. I think these two were already weakened.
LiliMerci, I'm hoping I went in soon enough and we caught it early. I go in for x-rays next week to see how bad it is. I will opt for surgery asap as I too have seen what it can do to people that wait too long. I've stayed off the heavy painkillers so far so I *think* maybe it is not so bad. I've got my fingers and toes crossed!
I'm in the exchange. If anyone is not send me a d-mail with your address. I will make a big mail day on Monday. If I already made a trade with you before this message then it was sent off today.
You forgot to say how many bulbs do you wanted??
opps, whatever you have extra of is good for me. I actually have you down for 2 NOID plumeria if that is ok with you. I have too many and need to get rid of the extras. I figure it won't make much of difference in cost to go ahead and send an extra one.
That sounds good...I'll reimburse you for the shipping okay...
I'll get the bulbs around and sent out...
I'm in the addy exchange...
Would you also like some Zebra Mallow "Zebrina" seeds??
Thanks....
Phyllis
pieohmy: I am in the addy exchange. I will ship on Monday also, so you should get the package on Wednesday.
I would love a couple of pups of your nuns orchid if you have extra! I had bought a beautiful nuns orchid last year and planted it in a mixed container planting. We had a new roof put on the house a couple of months ago and also had our pool and deck re-finished. The pot got moved and it was in the hot sun for three weeks ... everything in it got fried! Arrrgh! The pool guys made a huge mess, I was so glad to see them get done and leave my yard!
I was away from the house all day today so didn't get a chance to look around for extra plants but will go out first thing in the morning and look around. I will d-mail you with a list of what I have to share and you can tell me if you have space for any of it! I know I have a few things out there I can divide. Oh, one thing I know I have extra of (because I just divided some the other day) is Mandevilla: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1711/ Mine is not the pink though, it's a dark red.
I have mandevilla too and the same color. The blooms are so beautiful on it. The nun's orchid sends off pups like crazy so I have plenty. They are also in that bed so I need to move them soon too. My poor kids are going to hate me this weekend. My husband, who hates gardening, dug up roses from my dad's last weekend and planted them for me yesterday. I'm lucky that I can still garden through them, LOL.
lilsista, I'll take anything extra. I have plenty of room for extras. This is a big bed to fill after I take the tropicals out so anything will help fill it up.
It sure is great that your husband and kids help with the gardening and yard work while you are laid up with a herniated disc! I have back problems now and again ... nothing like a herniated disc though ... ouch! My DH has to dig for me when I need something large planted or transplanted because I just can't do it. He doesn't mind yard work at all. I usually do the mowing (riding mower) and he uses the weedwacker and edges and blows the driveway. I used to do the edging too but he put a new engine on the gasoline edger and I can never get it started!
Being that you both have mandevilla's... Do either of you's know if it's hard to root one...I'm getting a cutting and any advice would be welcomed...
My husband has been trying to talk me into leaving the bed alone to "see" what happens... yeah right.
I don't know on the mandevilla but you could ask in the propagation forum.
Why don't you try leaving at least one plant of each and see how they do.....
Or HE can always build you a Pagoda over part of it and like I saw on HGTV they put a filtering clothe over it to filter
out the direct sunshine....You might have to water that part alittle more..but you'd get to keep your beautiful plants...
Only a suggestion.. : )
plantladylin, i was at a nursery earlier this week and saw the red mandevilla. It was beautiful and quite expensive.
ooops I keep calling it a Pagoda that's a boat isn't it....LOL... it's a Pergola...My brother built one over his back porch...
lilsista59: I have not tried propagating the mandevilla but I would think cuttings would root easily. I will take a few cuttings today and see if I can get them to root!
LiliMerci: They sell the Mandevilla's here in our Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart garden centers, usually in early summer. I don't remember the exact prices but they aren't expensive at all. Gallon pots are probably @$10.00 if I remember correctly. I will have to look around and see if any place still carries them this late in the year and see what they are charging. I remember Wal-Mart having a couple of the light pink flowering ones on their clearance table about a month ago!
Thanks plantladylin...Let me know how it goes....
Up north here their considered Tropicals so they can put a nice price tag on them if you can find them...
When I was in Altoona,Pa abt 5 years ago they had 2 on clearence for a couple bucks each but they weren't taken care of...plants do need water once in a while...
I got them to see if I could baby them back but it was too late....
Figure if I try a cutting and get it to root it might have a better chance....
Funny how we get tropicals at such low prices here. Lowes always has tropicals for low prices. I always buy the clearance half dead plants too. My yard is full of stuff that was nursed back.
I am keeping one of each of the tropicals and will be moving them to a less sunny place. The area is much smaller though which is why I'm getting rid of the extras. I'll have to cram them all in. My husband already has two oaks to cut up so I'm not asking him to build anything. I have a red mulberry in that area that might shade the bed by next year so that was his reasoning. I have many more that I did not put on here to trade so there is a lot to lose.
pink and white are pretty common mandavilla here at Lowe's, HD or WalMart. I rarely see a red one.
I could use these if you still have them:
1) Alocasia 'Hilo Beauty' ~ small [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
(4 clumps) Hidden Ginger, Curcuma petiolata ~ [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
(4) plumeria ~ 1 NOID, 2 white, All of the plumeria are rooted and growing leaves. I will not cut the leaves off them.
See my tradelist or here is link to some plants I have:

Hmmm... I see my math is off on the plumeria there. I'll have to check tomorrow what I have left on those. I think there are still 4 and I'll see if I can determine the colors (they were marked at one time and hopefully haven't faded). I'll dmail you after I check out your tradelist.
I've been updating the first post so everything there is available still.
I have some banana pups too! Sent you a dmail
