I have a number of rooted cuttings which I have planted inground. On some of them, the original cutting got yellow and wonky but new shoots are growing at the base and I feel confident they will do fine. This has happened with cuttings/seedlings that were about the size of an index finger. On cuttings that were bigger than that, I have had 100% success and no damage.
My question is: should I cut the damaged branch? They don't look rotted but rather dried up, wrinkled and twisted (in one case). If cutting is recommended, how much?
thanks for your help
Rooted cuttings: to trim or not to trim
Hi Nery,
Back yet? I've read a number of threads where conflicting advice has been given: Cut down to healthy tissue and spray with fungicide, Cut down to healthy tissue and leave alone, Leave it alone until it dries, and Cut just dead tissue.
On a little cutting, I would hesitate to cut anything until the new growth is a decent size because I've seen the cutting continue to die down even after I have cut down the offending twigs. I've noticed that some Brugs exhibit die-back more than others. It's not going to hurt the cutting to leave it alone for a while unless you notice rot.
Thank you both. Miss V, I will dmail you in a moment. I asked the question because, like you, I have read conflicting info. I think I will go with "let it be". When the wonky piece is easy to pull off, then I will do so, probably next year.
This had not happened to me on brugs I got in 2007 and prior, but it did happen on my new salmon perfektion and I sure didn't want to lose than one. Seedsprout sent me a PERFECT plant so I was a little panicked that I was doing something wrong.
Again, thank you both for your input. I will not obsess about this matter any longer.
