I recently purchased a new plumeria from someone - I believe it is the yellow one. I fell in love with it because it has lots of leaves. I prefer more leaves than the bare stick like ones I mostly see.
The problem is, some of the lower leaves have been turning yellow and falling off. Is that normal? There are new leaves appearing at the top. No blooms yet.
Also - what should I be feeding it?
I have included a photo that was taken a month ago.
New Yellow Plumeria
Bottom yellow leaves are normal. As new ones come in, old ones come off. It's late in the season to start fertilizing, but a balanced fertilizer should be used next spring through the summer. It looks like you might be ready for a bigger container on that one. It looks very healthy.
Really !!!! thats wonderful news....I have been so worried because I dont ever have full sun anywhere in my yard. It is getting part sun right now, so I thought maybe thats why the leaves were falling off. Pretty soon I will be in full shade until February.
Try to give it at least six hours of sun a day, even if you have to move it around the yard. That's the best way to get blooms other than plenty of water and fertilizer. It doesn't matter how much sun it gets in the winter if it goes dormant. The best place for plumerias during the winter in colder zones is inside a house or greenhouse.
