Cardinals eating cats?

Hampton Roads, VA(Zone 7b)

Can anyone confirm if cardinals will, in fact, eat Monarch cats? I think that's what I saw happening, but I was inside at the time and my view was somewhat blocked. I found a dead cat on the ground under the asclepias I had moved him to the day prior.

I don't know about Monarch cats, but the Cardinals around here eat, or try to eat, any cat they find. One stripped my fennel of 11 BST cats in one evening. I brought the last two I found in to mature safely after that.

Sounds like it tried, didn't like the taste, and spit it out.

Aww, as I feared. Now I better understand the need for cages and such. I thought the cats were safe b/c of their taste. No wonder the cardinals have been hanging around so much. Thank you, Barb and mellie.

On the bright side, maybe they learned their lesson and will never try to eat another Monarch again.

Yes, that'd be good thing!
