I am really having a blast with the new babiez.. I could sit outside with them all day if I could just quit my job and live in the garden.. LOL
One of my baby RIR's just started scratching yesterday.. If I lay my hand flat on the ground and call it, It will come up and scratch on my hand.. I wanted to scream laughing.. it was a total crack up! Just wanna hug em and squeeze em!
The other day, one of the other ones that is really small was walking around on my foot and it spotted a hair on my toe and pulled it really hard.. Well, hard for that lil thing.. I barely felt it, but what a laugh!
When they get to run free in the garden.. after being alone a little while, I can call them and they flutter and dart over to me and they are all hyper.. pecking at anything cause they know they get a goodie.
I wish they liked cantaloupe.. but I can't get them to try it! I guess I've got them hooked on catapillars.. (yes, I hunt for them)
Do share your silly chicken moments.. I just love this!
Chicks are the funniest creatures!
Last night hubby had knocked down a dead tree, one of our 2 month old chickens came over and found them big black army ants in the trees, he went nuts on them then went back to the rest of the flock. Then about 5 minutes later there was well over 100 birds running toward that tree. Hubby said all he could see coming towards him was a bunch of feathers and dust in the back ground. Then they went back to the yard. Well DD went out there and they all flocked to her, she is not scared of them she just dont want them on her, she came running in the house and they almost beat her into the house, we laughed till we almost peed our pants.
LOL That is great!!! I love how they get "hyper" when they have been outside for a while.. that is just too funny!
I have learned not to take my flower coffee cup outside, they think its food or something and attack me. I also dont wear flowered pants out there. Same thing.
Hey ZZ--sure you don't want my beautiful JG/BA roo? He is utterly charming. I was carrying him around the house yesterday--don't ask--and he talked to me the whole time. Then when I came home from work and went outside he came up and sat with me on the porch and started talking again--like "How was your day?" "You look a little tired." I took care of everything while you were gone." Really, the perfect man!
Rosie digs potatoes with me. She goes into the hole I am digging when I turn the soil. She wants to check it first for worms. After she does some scrabbling in there and picking up the worms, she gets out of the hole and waits for me to dig the next bit, and then she starts all over. I pull out the potatoes, and she pecks at my hand sometimes as if to say "Hey, I'm not finished yet! Wait your turn!"
She doesn't try to eat the potatoes, fortunately. She just wants the worms or other bugs in there. If she sees me heading up for the garden, she runs over like a shot to get in there with me.
WORMS... hey I did not think about them, since I live in the desert, wonder if fishing worms would be the same??
To the chickens--yes! Red Wigglers--the Cadillac of Worms!
just thorw them on the ground? they cant burrow in the desert dirt... Tomorrow my girls are getting a a treat cause the store down the road sells fishing worms...
You guys are hilarious! I never knew that chickens had personalities!
VERY cool!
Catscan, how could I resist? LOL He sounds perfect.. I talk to my babiez so much.. I'd love one to finally answer! LOL
Oh Teresa, you wouldn't believe how cute they are! I got 2 new Buff Orp pullets and they have already warmed up to me. I was worried cause they really were shy.. but one of them will crawl straight up my arm already!
They just discovered the magic of watermelon!! I can get them to come flying.. LOL Crashing into my foot.. and getting all squeeky at eachother... Geez, I just about started a riot with one little piece of melon!
Yesterday one of them did something really strange... it would rock back on it's lil haunches, 1/2 way close it's lil eyes, put it's lil head up and sing a song that sounded completely different... Wonder why? It's not doing it today.
Crazy lil chickens.. a barrel of laughs..
I love how verbal they are! And so soothing and encouraging. They must be saying something--there are so many tones and cadences. "How are you? Is everything okay? I knoooooow. I knooooow. And then what? No, I really want to know....please tell me more. I knoooow. I knoooooow." Just lovely.
If anyone heard me talk to my babiez they would be sure I've lost my mind. LOL
Here is a small quote from this am..
