Wow !! I just opened the statement from my health insurer and am unpleasantly surprised. A few weeks ago I had an angiogram at the local hospital. True, they require trained doctors and assistants, expensive facilities and such and without Medicare and insurance I probably wouldn't have had the procedure. I suppose it is still an 'outpatient' procedure since I came and went the same day, but a bill for $16,567.32 seems pretty high, especially when the insurer only paid $2,481.73 and the hospital settled for it. Had I gone in without insurance I would have been stuck for the whole amount. It seems that this is the norm these days. Like politics, thats just the way things are and it probably won't get better. I'm certainly thankful for the coverage I have, and the bite in the pocketbook is tolerable so far. I have a great deal of empathy for the multitude of folks who don't have insurance. Maybe someday our government will solve that problem. One can only hope. Enough ranting.
