Insect friend or foe???

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

So, I've had a ton of bug problems this year - maybe it's the new house??

I've been seeing these bugs all over my hibiscus and am wondering if anyone else has these or even if anyone knows what it is??? Just wondering whether to add them to the "kill on the spot" insect list.

He's kind of cute! I hope he's a good bug not a bad one. I've never seen anything like that on mine, just the usual aphids, etc. Great picture too--you'll have to save that one for this year's photo contest!

just posting because I want to know if you find out what this is. LOL

It looks like a typical Assasin Bug nymph (there are dozens of species). They are good boys as they feed on bad boys. Only if they are a plague it could be a problem as if they don't find food they eat the leaves.

I think he looks like a long-horned grasshopper nymph to me. Grasshoppers are BAD. They multiply like mad and eat all your plants. It started with one and I said to him "oh aren't you cute, I'll just leave you alone.. how bad can you be"? Well, did I find out. They lay tons of eggs that overwinter here and when they hatch, look out! It's all down hill from there. I've been battling them for 3 seasons now. Here's the link I'm looking at to compare but you decide what you think.

Forgot to tell you . Awesome picture and awesome camera taking them with! And, pretty hibiscus.

I am with Carlos, it looks like an assassin bug nymph to me also. Why don't you post this on the bug ID forum for a positive ID.

edited to add - be careful and check you plants. When you see a bug whose diet includes other bugs that often indicates there is food (other bugs like aphids) there to eat.
