What is eating my liriope?

So I should've taken a pic before I cleaned up the liriope border. 5 of the 30+ plants I put down a couple months ago are completely destroyed. The rest are fine, healthy, big blue berries on them. The other ones went completely brown and utterly died. I saw some tiny snails when I pulled out the dead plants today. Are snails the culprits?

Or several of my plants have white "stuff" on the ground near them, is that some kind of mold / rot? My sage is looking a little pale and peaked.

I've never had a problem with liriope but snails could be the culprit. You can buy snail bait at Wal Mart. Also mold (the white stuff) may also be part of the problem. Have you had a lot of rain recently? My liriope is very drought tolerant and almost nothing kills it.
Maybe too much water?

You can apply dry garlic powder to the mold to get rid of it.
