Have: Yellow Rain Lily - Zephyranthes citrina

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Freshly harvested. Would like to trade for other Rain Lily, Habranthus and/or Zephyranthes.

Those these seeds are beginner friendly, be advised it takes 2 years or longer before they will start blooming.

You have Dmail.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

X - I wished I'd seen your thread earlier. I got a ton of seeds from my Pink blooming rain lilies. But I just scattered them around the bed under my Oak Tree where the older ones are growing because most people want the bulbs not seeds. If I get some more blooms, I'll d-mail you. If you don't get pink ones from someone else, then maybe we can still do a trade if you have any of the yellow blooming seeds left. :-)

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Becky .. I'm still harvesting them .. like you said, most people have bulbs and not seeds

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Do they always produce seeds. I've had them flowered but no seed.

LilliMerci - I hand-pollinate mine to make sure I get seeds. :-) A small fine-haired paint brush does the trick every time for me!

If I get some more blooms, I will certainly let ya know, X! :-)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

OK. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Of course, we would have to get rain here in order for them to bloom!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

X... I have a bunch of seed from white plants and a real light pink plants.

The seed all mixed into one baggy if your interested in them.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

How old are the seeds star? Rain Lily seeds don't store too well.

Mine are from May when mine bloomed for the first time. Haven't had any rain since then and with Faye mined bloomed all again and will have more pods coming on for the second batch.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

They free if ya want to try these and will collect some more when they ready.

Got give ya credit X. You must have lots and lots of patience, cu zyour right it does take years to get them to make a big enough bulb to bloom. I enjoy seeing them when they bloom, and no matter how much ya water them mine wil not bloom until they get rain. Then every time it rains they will make a bloom from early spring on.

The plants in four inch pots looking for a home and some groudn to spread in. : )

Hi X. Just wondering if you have any seeds left to share. I have some pretty little rain lilies. I am not sure of the name but will add a pic for you. They have a seed pod on them that I think will be ready to harvest in about 2 weeks. It is really green today. I would love to trade for some yellow. I have never seen any color of them up close other than the ones I have. LMK.

Starlight...I have bulbs for mine if you would like to trade. I have 5 big pots with rain lilies in them. I just love them and would love to have some other colors.

I have lots to trade if anyone wants some bulbs.

Here is the pic of one of the flowers.

Yes I do! .. Keep a close eye on the pod .. they ripen fast and disappear fast .. when you see it starting to crack, cut off the pod and put it in a small dish.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Moofie. Be glad to send ya some. No need for trade here You sending X seed which she needs, glad ya got some for her, and I gettign rid of my bulbs. Send me dmail with addy.

And yep X right. Ya gotta watch them pods like a hawk. They so tiny and ya have a tendency to miss them. Usually all it take sis a couple of warm days and poof they spliting open.

I noticed that everyone has their rain lily in a container. Is there a reason you don't put them in the ground?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I grow mine in both the ground and a container! Both areas they seem to do fine. :-) And one is in partial shade during the day and the others are out in full sun. So ... very easy to grow. But they do take a long time to bloom from seeds. Bulbs are the fastest way to get blooms. :-)

OK. I was just curious because I have mine in the ground.

Orlando, FL

I keep mine in containers so I can trick them into blooming for me. I just water every day and walla...flowers appear. I would loose them and have to wait for rains if I did not keep them in the pots. I did scatter a few around the small tree in the front last time I had seeds. I will not see blooms for a couple of years but worth the wait.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Moofiepoo - I have a bunch of them planted in a large garden bed under my Oak tree! They are mixed in with some trailing lavender lantana. It looks great when the Rain Lilies bloom! They get morning sun and afternoon shade under the tree. :-)

Orlando, FL

I bet that is pretty. Is the trailing lavender lantana as pretty as the pictures make it look? Sounds like a great spot for them. Do you have a pic?

How long do the seeds of Rain Lily stay viable? Thanks

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Good question Beebe54 - I have been told they don't stay viable for very long and to sow them right away after collecting them. So I would say probably no more than 4-6 months. (Possibly less.) I noticed today that one of my lilies has a bud getting ready to bloom! Yay!

X - I may have some fresh seeds for you soon! :-)

Here is a photo of the bed under the Oak tree where I grow the rain lilies and the lantana.

I have fresh seeds, just harvested today of the same ones that BeckyG has the lite pink with darker pink tips. If you want those let me know.

Orlando, FL

Beebe...I tried some of my seeds at 3 or 4 months and not one came up. So I think they must have a really short shelf life. I generally plant the seeds as soon as I see them ready.

Becky....I can see how pretty those must be when all in bloom. That lantana is awesome. I did not know they had the purple color until just a short time ago.

X...the seed pod is lightning up in color. I check it each time I go out with the dogs. So I will put it in a bowl as soon as it cracks a bit.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I just saw a seedpod on my pink rainlily. How long till it dries and I can collect?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Each plant is different .. some take only a few days other a week or so .. just keep an eye on it.

X
