brugs not doing well this year

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I don't know if it was because we had drought or because I had white fly infestation, but my brugs didn't grow very tall. We watered them when we could but we are on a well, so we had to be careful that we didn't run it dry.
The brugs are beginning to bloom. Solid Gold has done the best for me as it has in past years but I keep hoping for more variety.
I got a cutting of Mountain Magic and it is indeed a nice deep pink, but the blooms only seem to last one day. Does anyone know if this is typical of Mountain Magic?
I sprayed for the white flies today. There were a lot of them under the leaves.
All the brugs have buds or blooms but are quite short, some of the blooms just barely above the ground. I was a little lax on fertilizer early in the year because I was unwell, but have been very disciplined about caring for them since early July.
The picture is last year's solid gold.

I do not think anyone in most places across the U.S. have had a good year with their brugs. It's either too hot, too cold, too arid, drought, you name it.

Mine have hardly done anything this year because we started off very hot -- so they went dormant. Then it cooled off and got wet, then as things started taking off, it got very hot again. So, you're not alone.

Mountain Magic blooms will last for more than a day -- if it's not too hot. Maybe this fall you'll get a nice flush from her.

Edited to add a thread I started last year about Mountain Magic in 100 degree weather. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/757764/

Mine haven't grown much. It's been very hot & dry. Humidity down into the low teens. We've also had a record number of days over 95º. Not too many days over 100º mainly because I'm out in the country. Austin, near by, had a record number of days over 100º. I hope to see some grownth and maybe some blooms this fall.

I have had a bad Brug year also. Mites & smoke for all of July & part of Aug., I think they thought it was fall. I do have some blooms coming on now but no big flushes, just a few blooms here & there. Still fighting with the mites. They are bad this year. This is the 3rd year that they have not done well. I'm wondering if there will ever be a good year for Brugs in my area. They are sure a lot of work for not much performance.

I'm going to see if the house & garden spray I used worked at all. If not I have to find something else. I also plan to do some serious watering today.
