thyme

Is there edible and non-edible thyme and how do you tell the difference? Someone told me that the thyme in my yard is ornamental.

No thyme that I know of is actually poisonous, but they do vary in how tasty they are. Some have very little flavor, and some have an unpleasant resiny, bitter taste. You can generally get an idea of how a variety will taste by rubbing the leaf and seeing how it smells.

Phew - I am relieved since I been nibbling the garden. Waiting for the brain damage to set in....

How about wooly thyme, is it worth eating?

woolly thyme is really good ground cover when established Zhinu but it's worthless as an edible plant. Not that it's poisonous, just tastless.

Just curious which bed it should be in. I have three edible/medicinal beds and two ornamental beds. So, from the sounds of it I should move it to the ornamental bed.

I looked for wooly thyme at the nursery to plant between flagstones but they were out.
Are sweet potato vines evergreen? I like the color.

I think it should be in the ornamental bed too Laura. it's very good for polinating insects too - lots of bees.
