Why do some elephant ears cup occasionally? I have a hilo beauty that will cup up its leaves sometimes. I have checked to see if it was something enviornmental like dryness or wetness of the soil, etc but it doesn't seem to matter. I moved it around in shade and sun but can't really tell the difference. Sometimes it does it and sometimes not on the same leaves at diff. times of the day. Just wondering....
Elephant ears occasionally cupping?
Very hard to say. In some cases the leaves tend to cup up on new or hardening leaves and as they age slowly lean over. Their are a few forms of Colocasias were this trait is shown in more extremes. I would say for these cases it is genetics. This trait is shown in the plants and the leaves cupping up is something that is in the make up of the plants chromosomes.
Here is a pic of Big dipper.
Thanks that makes alot of sense. I do notice that the leaves lean over as they age in this one too.
