Gessies needed on DG Marketplace

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I would so much rather shop on DG than ebay. The shipping charges aren't as much and the price of the plant material is generally less. RainGazer, cedarnest, Jan and a lot of us love to order from DG Marketplace. What is one man's junk is another man's treasure.
Happy Growing !

Gail.......you read my mind. I've been keeping an eye out for gessies and streps there, but so far haven't found but a few Sinn. I would even love to buy some AV leaves(especially Buckeyes) if anyone offered them for sale. Rox

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are missing them, Rox, because they sell so quickly. Last night RainGazer bought 9 or 10 big streps from Nancy and I bought 5. The minute they go on sale, they are gone. That is why we are encouraging our friends to sell gessies on DG.

I have a lot of african violets but not Buckeyes.......it is strange but in our climate the buckeyes don't grow that well.

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

Just my luck!!!

I've been preoccupied with my kitchen floor being rebuilt and haven't been able to visit here much lately.

Hey Nancy......got any more?!?! Just kidding! I'll have to start looking every day. Or twice a day? I miss my streps. Used to have quite a collection.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Nancy also had some more the other day.........I bet she has sold 30 or 40 of them............but you do have to look...............

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am really looking for Franken streps.......will be happy to buy them on DG as either plants or leaves. I really want some.........thanks

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Cedarnest has posted some streps. I had (you know "had") to buy some. Lou

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

I even got in on the goodies. I got a few. I had to keep sneaking away and checking the computer. I was supposed to be helping with the kitchen floor.

I'm ready for some more Nancy......anytime. As long as my DH isn't watching. He seems to think I have enough! Like that's possible. A half a plant stand isn't nearly enough. LOL

Rox

Nancy, please quit posting plants for sale, because I can't quit buying them!!! ROFL If they are up there, I just can't control myself!! ;o) You know I love it, though! I'm beyond thrilled and have gotten some of the Streps that I have wanted so badly for so long! Thank you so much!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am very indebted , too!!!!!!!!!! I wish everyone would start posting on DGMarketplace so we can all shop more. (so you say.............why not you, Gail (LOL)) I will in a short time but I am slower than Nancy!

Rain, you find some more things......this is just waaay too much fun!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

So how does one find the marketplace and go shopping? I would love to!

Thanks,
Shanika

Hi Shanika!

On the DG homepage in the colored bar just below the tabs at the top of the page, you'll see the word Marketplace. It's right beside where it tells how many dmails you have. Just click Marketplace and you'll be transported to the demise of all your extra money! LOL

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks! I'm ready to spend some birthday money here soon. I'm making up my wishlist now. LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

If I survive the storm, Jim, I am going to get your list of streps (LOL)..........to you. I am overloaded with streps because I guess I keep growing them. My next venture is more episcias, kohlerias and always the nematanthus, columneas, aesychanthus and x condanthes.........I am trying to enter a lot of 6" hanging baskets in February and then I will have so many plants to take cuttings and start over with them after they bloom.

I also started from seed15 (I earlier said 13 ) kinds of sinningias speciosas..........they are so gorgeous when they bloom. It takes almost 9 months from seed to full bloom..........here is a sample.

I also have ordered from Maruo in Brazil many wonderful seeds.........can't wait until spring...............in the meantime I guess I will be selling streps ..........smiling.............and episcias and kohlerias...........

I have a question.

I seem to have trouble keeping 'small' streps alive after they're shipped to me. Larger ones (say those grown in 3-4" pots) do fine...but the small ones in the little cups just never make it!
I mean, they're packaged wonderfully....they look beautiful when I unwrap them, but they just go downhill and die:(

I really have tried to not overwater them, as I know that's their worst enemy....so maybe have I under-watered?

Any special tips on caring for new/young streps?
I have a tentative trade for a young one in the spring, and I gave one to my mom and she's absolutely 'smitten' with it...so I might like to get her a couple of small ones in the future, so I need to prepare myself for success this time! (Ü)

i keep all my baby streps on matting.it keeps them from getting real dry & provides extra humidity for the, or you could use an acquarium, only water when they are real dry
bonnie

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

good advice, Bonnie........I put mine on capillary matting, too.........only water when they are light weight when I pick up a pot. The most important thing is to not plant in a pot too big for the root system. I recently did something real stupid and I deserve the consequences..........2 dead streps out of 13 from Lyndon LYons. I even told LL that I would take small streps because I wanted them. They came in 1" pots...........I was lazy and transferred all of them to 31/2" pots...........stupid of me.......they should have gone into 3" tub pots or 21/2" square for a long time................

Hi Nan, I find it really easy to lose baby streps. Keeping them under a propagation dome or at least semi-enclosed (like in an open plastic bag) helps - I usually don't lose any when I do that. Oh, and I make sure they aren't too hot - it can get pretty hot in a completely closed container under lights. It's safer to have a vented container. Until they have a good root system, I sort of treat them like baby leaves.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That is what I have learned about a dome.........streps get too hot without ventiliation and they die faster for me.
