One of my roos seems to have taken it into his feeble brain that he is going to mate with one of my ducks. He chases it all over the place till he catches it. Worse thing is he's picked the male as the object of his affection! I have no idea how to put a stop to this aside from when he's ready butchering him. We've already decided that all the roos will be butchered when they've reached the right size so that's a given.
Anyone know of a way to stop this roo from harassing this duck in the meantime?

A very confused rooster
He probably knows full well that the duck is also a male. It's a dominance thing. Other than penning him up, I don't know how to cure it.
We are having chicken and dumplings tomorrow with a couple of problem Brahma roosters.
eat him early
chicken ribs are nice when marrinated
Thanks we may just do that. Today two that have been extremely vicious towards the hens and other roosters will meet their doom. They were penned up last night to clear their guts out first.
I don't like having animals that abuse other animals around.

We had rooster and dumplings today.
LOL
I have one Jersey giant rooster left. All the hens are in the coop and he is still in the pasture. He is trying to do the turkeys. Now, THAT'S and ambitious man!
jylgaskin LOL probably thinks they're big beautiful gals!

Too funny
Well yesterday I caught the roo making the ducks so unhappy. He spent the night in a dog kennel while I made sure he was the culprit. Today I moved him in with the does. Since that paddock has an electric fence he isn't able to get out but if he finds a way his lifespan will be considerably shorten! There has been peace in the chicken yard today. No one there misses him.
Sonny the dog got moved from that pen to one with the bucks. He chased the roo and wouldn't listen. This makes him a liability around Milly who is due to kid soon. Can't have her kidding when I'm not around and he hurts the babies. He wasn't too happy at being moved and the does kept asking for him but it's for the best. A week from Sunday Aysel (our Akbash pup) is coming and she will go in with the does but if that doesn't work out I can move her to the doelings (2) who will be in a separate pen.

That confused roo is at it again. This time he's acting like a Napoleon and trying to pair up with one of my goat does. I caught him on her back trying to get a mouthfull of hair and attempting the act!!! I think I will name him Napoleon.

Or Duchovny.
Duchovny ? I don't get it Catscan. ??? Who or what is Duchovny ?
MollyD
LMAO, he is hot though! I loved him on X-files. Now I'm even more into him ; )
Molly, I assume you looked that up.. I did.. only those crazy folk in CA with the bright pink hair have people like Duchovny.. LOL
"X Files" star David Duchovny’s announcement that was he was in rehab for sex addiction "
Thanks frans. I didn't have a clue. I knew his name but didn't realize that is what Catscan meant LOL! Hadn't seen the story.
MollyD
I am not an apologist for California generally--but Duchovny went to Princeton.
Why do I know these things? I've never even seen Xfiles and I don't read People or US. No filter...No filter.
This is beyond hilarious.
I had a cockerel who would chase the males that were not the ojnes he was raised with and try to mate them. The ones who stood up to him and said "No Way! Let's Fight!" were left alone. The poor submissive guys would see him coming, literally scream and run the other direction. He went to live with a neighbor. He's the only chicken whose ever acted like this.
Suze
Suze you think these guys have a faulty gene that makes them confused as to who is a proper mate? My poor ducks spent so much time running from this roo they looked like a Bugs Bunny cartoon! You know...ZOOMMMM....
At least Angel doesn't feel threatened or bothered by him. Only drawback is her back gets muddy from him riding on her so much. He's a happy camper though. So much female and it's all his!!
