Has anyone ever heard of Rose Slugs? I never knew of such a slug, but not a Slug but a kind of worm, with a big brown head. And does a mosaic pattern, sort of to the leaves of not only Roses but other plants.
I took a leaf of my rose too a master Gardener, and that is what he told me.
Never Heard of it before.
Have a pic in AM
Slugs?
Here's what a rose 'slug' really is:

Based on the photos, I likely have those too, but they don't seem to be hurting the roses very much.
True, it will. Don't breathe while you use it, or wear a mask. Also, be certain that there are no bees or other pollinators around because it will kill anything it touches. If you want to use a systemic insecticide, I would recommend using one that you dig into the soil around the plant rather than the spray kind, just because it always seems to get on something that one doesn't intend for it to get on. Sounds like he went over that with you already. I've seen a few leaves like that in my garden, too. But I don't think I have a bad case of them at all. Only a leaf here and there. I can live with that.
I will be carefull and make sure all the good buggys are removed as best as I can. this is no one or two leaves that I can deal with, but this is the hole plant and its twin, have two. Plus others. Want to know what a dummy I was, I found one awhile back, was playing with it, did not known what it was. Wish I took a pic.
I like bugs LOL
As long as I know they bite me.
I forgot the word,In last tread./ Don't LOL
I like all creachers (spelling ?) Have no Problem holding them, only if they want me too, love the little snakes we get. they are fun. Now the Spiders can't handle them, or should I say some, the garden ones, have no problem, them big furry ones, or the Big Brown ones Yes have a problem there.
OKay, I'm a nut, but love it LOL
Shivers! I have not problem with snakes. Useful creatures and interesting, to boot. Also insects and spiders. I'll save them whenever I can. I can do ladybugs on my skin, and a few other 'nice' things, haven't been too successful trying to let other creatures crawl on me. I don't know why. I know they are harmless. It just gives me the chills. However, i can garden with complete confidence around all kinds of bees. I will be smack in the middle of their foraging and have them all around me, and I don't worry a bit. Of course, I'm not allergic to them so that is a plus.
Have no problem with any, But bee's and Skitters have a really bad
Allergic reaction to them. Bees can kill me if I don't have the meds, which is kinda funny, because I have them, and the Bee's ignore me, fly over, buzz in my face, bomber attack. But have never been stung.
Skitters are a diff. They give me bad welts with a fever, I think I would rather tackle a stinging nettle than what they do to me.
Interesting discussion in (on?) the rose forum about roses and what might be eating them and how to protect them.

Thanks Kathy, looked into it.
Tils have you tried the suggested sprays before you use malathion? Insecticidal soap or neem are pretty efficient against soft bodied insects like slugs and caterpillars - you might want to give that a go before crossing into the heavy hitting chemicals. Probably take more than one application, but it will last in a spray bottle for quite some time.
I did try that, didn't seem to work, I went around and tryed to get all the spiders moved before spraying only sprayed the rose and the Rhodys ( for the beetles/weavels or what ever they are) nothing else. Went out and looked day after Spidys where all back where I took them from. I was very careful.
