Is it too late to repot?

I've got a plumie that has it's roots coming out of the bottom of the pot and is currently blooming. Is it too late to repot it in a larger pot or should I just wait till next spring?

I would wait. First of all I would never repot while it's blooming, and secondly, dormancy is but a few months away.

I would repot. I think there is plenty of time for the plumie to adjust before dormancy, and I frequently repot things that are blooming. You just have to be careful not to break the inflo when you turn the plant upside down and gently shake it out of its current pot. Use your hand to hold the plant back from shooting out. Repot by going one size bigger to be sure that you don't overpot. The plant should have about 2-3 inches of fresh soil to grow into. If the plumeria is going into a greenhouse for the winter and won't be going dormant, then you can repot any time of year, but I generally repot from spring to fall. JMHO.

Thanks, ladies. I wish I had a greenouse for it to go into. Unfortunately, all plumies come inside to go into dormancy. On another note, I went out of town for a few days and darn if those deer didn't come by and eat many of my leaves on several plants not in bloom! Usually they don't bother them, but there was no human or dog smell to help keep them away. They look pitiful!

If it makes any difference, the roots coming out are fairly good size in thickness -- not the new little looking roots.

Hi Barbara, sorry about the leaf damage, but they will grow back in fairly short order if you remove them. The fact that the roots are a good size coming out of the holes means that the new soil that you put in the bottom of the new container will be used by the roots fairly quickly. I say go for it but don't wait too much longer!

Thanks, Clare! It's the one I brought back from Aruba (if you remember). I'll do it tomorrow. I really think it will be ok considering the size of the roots. Thanks!

Neat! I do remember that one:-)
