My aster quadrupled, (if not more) this season, but the whole plant is seperating. You will be able to tell by the picture. You can look right down into the center of the bush and see where the the main roots are. Does anyone else have this kind of problem? It doesn't seem to hurt the plant or slow down the growth of flowers, but it is not as attractive.
Thanks
Vicki
Problem with 2 plants, could use your help
Probably needs to be divided into four or five clumps and replanted this winter or spring.
Pruning then back by half or a third when they get twelve inches high or so will delay blooming a bit but will keep them shorter so they don't split.

Vicki they are so pretty I love the color one lavender is one of my favorites
I just researched propagation asters. They need to be divided every 2 or 3 years. The middles do tend to die out. - which is why you should divide them. Some can be divided every year.
How long have you had this one?
