Spanish moss source

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Anyone in the Austin area know of a source for some Spanish moss? I'm staging a fern exhibit on the grounds of Zilker Botanical gardens in conjunction with the Dinosaurs' exhibit. I'm trying for a "prehistoric" feel. I know there's a tree near downtown filled with moss, but I don' think they'd appreciate me removing any from one of the few remaining native stands! If I can't find some locally, my alternative would be to hopefully find some further southeast. Don't need a lot, just enough to hang from a few low tree branches. Any ideas?

thanks lonediver...we may have to resort to ordering some...

You might try calling around to some florist shops. Especially the larger shops that do banquettes and special occasion displays.

Just got home from beginning placement of the "Zoo of Ferns." The dinosaurs arrived Thurs evening and they're beginning to set 'em up. Hope they aren't too scary for a 3 yr old! Here's Bruce in front of one......
Thanks again.....and stay safe and dry down there.....or come here and stay safe....

Who are you trying to fool? You're complexion is much softer. I can tell the difference - no contest.

How much moss would you like? I can hop over in the pasture and get you as much as you need. I pulled a flat rate box worth this afternoon and it took no time at all.

Gee Kristi, I'll take as much as you can gather and stuff into a box. It probably doesn't weigh much of anything, does it? The flat rate one will be fine, but bigger if you can find one and just send it parcel post. I remember when you sent me a box last year, it came overnight! I will finish staging Th/F. Exhibit opens Sat. But if I don't have moss right away, I can add it when it comes. The exhibit will be open 3 months.
Our area is about 30' long on either side of a pathway. (Area looked smaller before logs were added). The ferns are set on log stumps and hanging from tree branches. I have nearly 50 large ferns to work with. The moss will surely make it look like they've been there a long time.... I really appreciate this.....and I'm sorry I can't be there to see you hop over that fence!!!! I'll be happy with anything you send. I was resigned to not being able to get any moss earlier today!
(p.s. if you think that dinosaur above is scary...wait'll this kitchen project goes on another month...and see me turn into Godzilla....
