My fancy new girls!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, this is the final installment of my chicken acquisitions for a LONG time! I got these last night from a lady on Craig's List who lives close to me. Now I know where I can get more! But I don't WANT any more right now (except what hatches out of my hatching eggs).

So, here they are:

This is a buff laced Polish of some sort. The lady I got them from didn't raise these. They came from Parkersburg, Iowa, where there was a very severe tornado earlier this year that basically flattened the entire town. There was livestock everywhere, and she ended up with some of the chicks that were rescued. This is one of them.

Edited to add that only the Polish came from Parkersburg, not all of them.

Another pic of the Polish. She has lost a lot of her top head feathers. I put some rooster booster ointment on it to stop pecking and hopefully she'll grow them back.

The spitzhaben, the brabanter, and in the background, the last new one - a Dominique.

Well, technically she's not the last one because I also got 2 chicks - both blue-laced red Wyandottes, but I don't have a pic of them yet.

very pretty girls you have there. are they all in that coop you made? If my birds were in there they would have already turned that grass into dirt.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yup, they are all in there. The coop and run are portable so we move it to keep the grass fresh. I am making another one though because I think there are too many for that coop, but it'll be OK for a couple of weeks while I get the other one done.

Oh yea it will be ok. I am still free ranging mine. Thinking about letting the turkeys out next week. I just hope they remember where home is.

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Tia.. I would keep them in another week or 2 if you can...Turkeys are much harder headed than chickies about going home to roost if they can stay out..

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yep, they will get in the nearest tree...

Claire, super fantastic gorup of chicks!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok thanks guys I will do that. I just feel so sorry for them, they see the chickens go out and get excited that they might be able to get out. I want to let them into the bigger part of the pen but that is where my older ones love to hang out and lay an egg.

swooooon, Claire...just swooooon.

My girls are getting old (lost two in the last month.....) - need new additions I guess.

Claire, what neat birds. If you hadn't said they were girls I would have thought males. I don't know much about the lovely fancy chickens, just plain banties are what i have. But do like to see your pretty ones.

I almost forgot - finally took a couple pics of the blue laced red wyandotte chicks. Here they are. Buford and Guinevere. Kelly named them this time! We think a male and female, at least that is the idea.
