NICE PORTERHOUSE 08

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

At three pounds two ounces this may be my best ever by this date. A few nicer ones may be in the offering for a later date. It takes one twice this big to turn competitive heads. :)

I dare say that you could make quite a few BLT's from that puppy. do you compete with them? If there is an event coming up, how long can you keep one in top shape before the weigh in? Do they do drug-testing? lol

Wow - impressive, Dwaine. How does it taste?

Competition..........yes but usually I miss the all important specific date of first weekend in October. The world record is seven pounds twelve ounces. Three weeks is the limit on keeping one at forty degrees without losing weight. Most winners are ugly from compound flowers. I will eat anything I grow. That's the ultimate drug test. I just like to see how big I can bring one in. A second place in Pennsylvania's weigh off is the best I have ever done with a tad over three pounds. Five pounds sometimes will be a winner here. For me it's all about just trying. I are trying. :)

I think Porterhouse was new on the 07 marketplace. It is a very good eating fruit too.

Hey, that's all we can ask.

My hubby would LOVE that one.

Nice, at $3.99+ /lb thats about 12 bucks!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

That is turning my head alright!!

At 3.99 a pound we have eaten at least a hundred bucks worth. That half pays for my gardening insanity. The profits are still on the vines clean and green. We'll end up with some frozen sauces. Of course they are absoutely organic at this house.

WOW Dwaine.
Are you also going for the big pumpkin prize this year.?
I remember someone talking about it this spring.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Dwaine nice tomato - i'll have to try weigh some of mine although only big ones here are hybrid bradywine's and i do not think they are close to yours. did not know there were tomato compeitions, only knew the pumpkin guys.

A lot of times pumpkin folks are also working other plants as well. My pumpkin is Ka Poot because it got mixed up with some fungal problems. Just wait untill next year.

Porterhouse surely has to have some genes from other great beefsteak fruits. I 've had some nice Brandywine's but I could never get them much over two pounds. Brandywine is my most favorite flavored fruit. Box Car Willy is a very close second for flavor. Bet I could not blindfolded tell the difference.

Think of it this way, other competetors probably had troubles with too much rain too.
