Doomed chrysalis?

Ugh. I think one of my chrysalis is possesed by that evil parasitic moth. The caterpillar looked normal, it made its chrysalis yesterday and it looked fine. Now there's some weird bubbly stuff coming out of it. That can't be good... And it's kinda twitchy sometimes. I should get rid of it, right? I've seen one ant already. I had another cat that halfway made a weird-looking chrysalis and then the ants came and covered it within an hour. Needless to say I got rid of that one. So sad... Well, I have 6 other chrysalis that look healthy so far. I'm hoping for the best.

What kind of caterpillar/butterfly is it out of curiosity? Any time fluid or anything for that matter comes out of the chrysalis, it's not a good sign. Lots of them just don't form correctly despite our best wishes. My Polydamas STs like to crawl on each other so I have to protect the chrysalids until they dry. I've had a couple knocked down or hit so that they leak. Sounds like you might want to get rid of that one; if whatever it has is contagious you dont want it spreading.

It's a black ST. It looks like it's dried out and stopped leaking, and I haven't seen anymore ants. But I will get rid of it. I've just got one more caterpiller still convinced he needs to keep eating. There's 6 other hopefully healthy chrysalis and 4 cats that are in their J-shape, just waiting. With some luck I'll have the first butterflies in about a week!
