Clarkson, KY

Waiting with bait-breath for more updates!

Clarksburg, MO

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Clarksburg, MO

Clarksburg, MO

But an awesome hatch so far.

Sheila

Clarkson, KY

Great hatch!! ummm, keep peddling too, please.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yippee! how about a little WIND power from the TX panhandle?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Sheila, are you making your pictures smaller. I have to downsize all of mine. Just takes to long to post if they are large. Good luck with all your babies, they are so cute and cuddly when just hatching. I let my mommas do their own thing. They hatched four this year, which is enough for me. That makes my flock total 8, and one gineau fowl. I usually let them out to free range around noon and they go now back inside between 6 and 7 pm.

wow great hatch i hope u can figure out how to get picks up

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Wow! This is wonderful to hear about! I'm so excited for you. I sure do hope you have pictures up soon. What colors are they?

Clarksburg, MO

How do you make you pics smaller, Donna.

Sheila

Okay I got done hatching about 6 last night. Get this i had 24 out of 25 eggs hatch and these were shipped eggs. So I am estatic. I have several blues, a couple of much lighter blues, almost a silver color and many black and splsh chicks. Have 23 living, 2 did not make it. But am soooooo happy.

Am getting ready to set some polish and buff orps and then will set my big hatch for the Jacob's cave swap

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

What is the Jacob's Cave swap?

Clarksburg, MO

It's Like a Missouri Chickenstock. Jacob's Cave is the location near Versailles, Missouri.

They have about 20 acres of people setting up their own stands, selling chickens, small animals, small animal products, garage sale stuff, etc. Heck, even this spring we saw a guy who was trying to sell monkeys. He had them in a 8ftx8ftx8ft pen and showed us that they can drink from a soda can, are very loveable.

It is one of those places where you can see literally anything. My husband makes bucket feeders, pipe waterers and small cages (most poeple come without a cage, just looking and then need something to take their impluse purchase home in) LOL.

A really great time for one and all. $5 a carload to set up and sell, or just to look.

Sheila, I am not very good with computers. The woman, only person around that will come to one's house to help with problems, added some things to my computer a couple of months ago, $350.00 worth, and I was never happy with all that she did. Anyway she lost some of my best photos, erased all my addresses and lost my resizing . Another internet friend from England helped me find my resizing method. But now I am not sure which it is. I think it is Image Resizer by Microsoft. I know it was free. Maybe you can go to Google and find it. Sorry not much help. What i do with the program is when i have a photo and want to send it I right click on right edge of photo and the menu comes up, I click on whatever size I want, usually medium, then it shows up at that size.

I'm sure someone else can be of much more help to you.

Cool! That sounds like it would be great fun. Looks like it wouldn't be a crazy long drive for me either....

Hmmm.....

When is it?

It is the first weekend in October I think it is the like the 2, 3, 4 and 5th.

You should come. I would love to meet you and it is loads of fun.

Sheila

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I think that might be possible - I will see what Kelly thinks. We could go to Kansas City on Friday night, then spend the day at the show on Saturday, and go home on Sunday, unless I buy chickens, in which case I guess we'd have to go home Saturday night! It would be fun to meet up with you! Maybe some others would like to go too! We could do a mini DG Poultry Roundup there!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Hey Sheila, I just realized you are also on BYC, and you have the same username there. I am on BYC as "ChooksinIowa" and I noticed you are maybe ordering eggs from Leah Popson. I ordered mine already and they are supposed to arrive today! That's funny that we both ordered from her - small world!

What an incredible hatch!! That's great, especially for shipped in eggs. Wish I could go to the great swap, only about 8hrs of driving....siigh

Cmoxon

What do you all have to do in the City???

Do you have a camper???

You are certainly welcome to park it at our house and save on expenses.

We are about 30 minutes from versailles.

Sheila

Clarksburg, MO

What did you order? I was thinking about it. Are all silkies bantams???

Maybe someone will know. That I what she told me and I don't think that is right.

Sheila

Lodi, United States

Hi Sheila. All Silkies are small--but there are "standard" Silkies (small) and "bantam" Silkies that are even smaller. At least in the UK.

Clarksburg, MO

That's what I was thinking. I understand that they are small, but she was trying to tell me they were all bantams.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I just ordered a mix of whatever hatching eggs she had. I don't have any silkies but I know they are good brooders so I thought it would be fun to have a few. I am not so concerned about their size. She also sent me a couple of mille-fleur d'uccle eggs. I hope they will do OK. I was just interested in some new bantam size birds. If the silkies are the larger type, that is still OK for me because they are still smallish sized birds. Plus she is sending some cochin eggs, and I don't have any of those at all either. It is the first time I ever ordered hatching eggs and I wanted to see how my incubator was working and give it a try. So I wasn't especially worried about what eggs I would get. It's just for the fun of it and they were a good price I thought. Will see how it goes.

I didn't have anything special to do in the city. We just go there for a weekend trip sometimes for fun. Kelly is a huge fan of barbecue so he likes to go to Oklahoma Joe's when we go to KC. And I like the shopping!! LOL!! We don't have a camper. We usually just stay somewhere near the plaza in the city and then do our shopping and eating in the vicinity. I figured if we leave on Friday after work, it's an easy drive (about 3 hours) and we know places that we like to eat dinner when we get there and get a good night's sleep to be ready to drive to the swap on Saturday. That way we don't have to do the whole drive (I think 5 hours?) on Friday night after work!

Claire

Foley, MO

Where is Versailles? How far from me I wonder?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Do a mapquest to find it - worked for me!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Mapquest says Foley, MO to Versailles MO is 2 hours 52 minutes drive.

Clarkson, KY

Take I-70 out to RT54W and go southwest to Jefferson City. Thence to MO-C/Ellis blvd whatever that is, onward to Versailles. Ready to GO!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

hmmmmmmm I might be up for a road trip also.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Shelia, you did an excellent job there and should be very proud of yourself. Give yourself a good pat on your back. They are some pretty babies.

Clarkson, KY

Maybe if tamtam came through town with her three kids you could hitch a ride...teehee.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

nope nope nope, I did my time with traveling with kiddo's. Not if I can help it ever again, wubs ya Tam.
