Hey John are you the Guy who writes the Books? Paul

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

No, I'm the guy from the Sci-fi series "Farscape." LOL! Just kidding, but that's where I got the handle.

I think the Crichton you are referring to is Michael, but don't quote me on that...and yes, I am too lazy to "wiki" the answer.

It's been touch & go for frost here, but so far everything is hanging on pretty good. All in containers in front of a large trampoline (tramp)

Frost ? Whats Frost?

Our gardening season will soon be finished. We normally get a "killing" frost by Mid-September. Which is a low temperature of 28F or -2C. Most plants will freeze and either die or go into dormancy.

Oh joanna you're not kidding you do have a short season - gosh I know it must make you so sad to have such a short one. Your plants looks absolutely beautiful! Do you put most in your greenhouse or do you just collect seeds for next season? My season ends at the end of October so I'm usually digging up my hibiscus in a mad frenzie the weekend before - the other plants I just let die back and replace next spring...

I have tomatoes & cucumbers in the greenhouse during the summer. Have moved a few big tropicals in when there is a close to freezing night temp. The tropicals will need to come indoors if I want to overwinter them. I don't start the greenhouse up until end of March. We don't get enough hour of natural sunlight before then. Also it would be expensive to heat it during winter. I usually buy seed in early spring, since I like to start a lot indoors and then move seedlings to the greenhouse. I had great success with wintersowing last year and used a lot in my containers.
