Hi All,
I've seen mention here of taking a brug out of it's container and then removing some roots and repotting. When is the best time to do this?. I have a Xena from last year that is in the same pot and I suspect I should have given it this treatment sooner since it isn't doing as well as the newbies that were just started this year. Is it too late to do that now? It bloomed so late last year I almost didn't get it in before frost, so there are a couple of months yet before that happens. Any suggestions from you all in the know will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Juanita
Repotting Question
You could re pot now, but I wouldn't trim roots until next spring if you hope to get blooms this year. I re pot all summer as needed.
Thanks!
I guess maybe I will just let it be for now and hope for the best. If I put it in a bigger pot than it's in right now I won't be able to move it in. Not sure as it is how I am going to get all the brugs inside when it is time. If it makes it though the winter I will give it the trim in the Spring before it goes back out.

Juanita, what size pot is it in? It might just need a bigger pot. Does it dry out fast after watering? Shamefully, I've had one in the same 25 gal tub for over 5 years.. I keep it green year round and it's a hardwood tree. I've never redone the soil or lifted it and finally just this year its started showing signs of my neglect. Not as many blooms and growth isn't as rampant. It does still produce new shoots from the root ball. I've started a new one and I'm considering not wintering the original.
I do like theraglady, pot and re-pot all summer. I did trim and retub a Maya this spring, I severed the old grow from the root ball, kept the new growth from the season before. It really did great, no wilting or even going limp. It didn't bloom as soon as it usually does, but it's a sacrifice that had to be made for the life and beauty of one of my favorite brugs.
Juanita, I posted too late. lol Do you have anyone that could help you lug them? Those tubs I use have corded handles and it's not a job for 1 person to move them, but I can usually snag someone to help me. In my almost 10 years with brugs, I've only had one handle break through. I suppose some year, I'll have to find something smaller growing than Brugs to keep me busy, cause it's kind of a hassle getting someone to help me sometimes.
I can move them pretty much myself. (I'm a landscaper) The problem is a space concern. Last year I had one brug to bring in, and this year there are close to 10. I don't have a closet to put them in so they will go dormant, and I'm really not sure how this is going to work. :0). Last year I kept the one I have in the garage greenhouse and left the leaves on it. That was a mistake because the aphids found it and I had a mess all winter. The Xena is so tall now that I may just have to cut it off and start the "y"s in the Spring. That would solve the pot problem.
Thanks for everyone's help,
Juanita
