Epazote

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

I planted some seeds ages ago. I should have marked it by date but well over a month. It took a while and I got some sprouts. For a month now they have been nothing more than tiny little sprouts doing nothing to grow. They are in fertile planting mix and I have had them outside in warm weather and on a pad under lights when it cooled off. Is this typical behavior? (Not mine, the plant's.)

Middleburgh, NY

Michael, that isn't typical behavior (for the plants). Usually, they grow rampantly. I've grown epazote several times, but can not get pass the kerosene smell to use it!

Michael,

here in the desert, they grow wild, specially in dry areas where they are neglected. soil is plain harsh sand. it hardly rain up here too.

prolly the problem is.... too wet in ur area?

also, i have notice lots of plants in the desert, seeds prefer to be expose in the sun, little water to germinate. hth.

use epazote sparingly to avoid kerosene flavor. i use it all the time to avoid gas on beans.

Thanks Ma Vie, I will try not watering for a while and see if anything happens. They are still in pots so I will put them in a window and ignore them. Could be bad seeds or my non-green thumb. I will try again next year.

I have found this growing wild in the yard here. It is perennial.

Wonder if it needs a cool moist period (like Perilla, for example) to germinate?
