I really think we will be keeping Minnie Pearl forever. That poor baby got caught up in the wire fence this morning, and when I got to the barn she was standing there with a nasty swollen front leg and just gashed wide open. Luckily no arteries or veins hit, and although it looks really bad, vet says it should heal fine. Not an easy area to bandage either- right above the knee.
But- my goodness- what a terrific patient she was! (She is only 15 months old) She let the vet examine it without moving at all, let him CLIP the hair around it (this horse has never seen or heard clippers before). Our vet was really surprised at how good she was. Then she stood stock still for me to cold hose it for half an hour! She let me redress it, and give her a gram of bute, all with complete calm and quiet. I swear I am keeping her forever. This is her second injury and she was a doll the last time too. That was another wire cut and I had to take care of it in a huge monster thunderstorm, with the rain and wind so loud you couldn't think. I needed to wrap her leg and I had to let go her lead to do it, and she just stood there in the barn like a sweetie and didn't move.
I will add a photo in the morning of the injury- you all are not going to believe how hideous it looks. Poor girl.
