So I was on my way to party today, in a suburban neighborhood in my nice little corner of eastern PA, when I saw the most outrageous bird just hanging out on someone's lawn. At first glance, I thought it was a parrot or something like that that had escaped from someone's house, but when I got out of my car to get a better look I realized it was shaped more like a ground bird, with short legs and a long horizontal body and head. What made it crazy was the color: bright, bright red, with gold accents, including a golden semi-circular shaped crest on top of its head. It was probably close to two feet long when it extended its head straight out. I have tried various bird identification wizards online, but no dice--I am getting the feeling that maybe this is not its natural habitat, considering it was the very opposite of camouflaged.
I know that's not much to go on, but I am not much of a bird watcher, and the only camera I had on me was my cell phone, which didn't come out. (I told people at the party about it when I got there, and one joked that it sounded like I had seen the Phoenix from the Harry Potter movies, and then some other wiseguy made a crack about Bigfoot sightings and how the photos "mysteriously" never turn out). Can someone please help me prove I am not crazy?
CLOSED: Here's a strange one (no picture, sorry!)

Maybe? Golden Pheasants are kept as pets and sometimes escape
Does sound rather like Golden Pheasant.
