Love it!

WOW, you sure do have some big ears there
Sandra
Nice photos. Mine never quite took off this year, but I'm hoping next year it will. You give yours a lot of sun or keep it partially shaded?
partialy shaded lots of Fertz to
Borneo Giants are heavy feeders so if you want really big Ears, you have to attend to their nutrient needs or they have to be growing in soil that is naturally rich in nutrients.
Paul, your BG is very nice; looks like the pups on my giant clump. Of course, mine are over 3 years old in the ground, with the largest one having over 5 feet of clear thick trunk like a palm tree.
Thanks, I think mine was in a combination of less than ideal soil and too much shade. I'll plant it in a better location next year once it's grow a little more. I've put it in a good size pot for the rest of the summer and over winter.
Are they hardy in my zone (I thought they were), but if I need to dig it up, that's no problem.
If heavily mulched, they could be but I have no experience in growing them in your zone. To be safe, I'd bring it inside. If you have more than one, you might bring one inside and let the other one overwinter outside. The main thing is making sure the ground does not freeze and that it does not stay too moist in the winter.
Thanks, hopefully it'll produce some pups when I get it up larger and I can try that. I'm thinking of doing the same with my Green macrorrhizos (which I think you said wasn't hardy) and seeing what happens. It's right next to the house, so I'm going to chop the top and let the rest stay in the ground. I lost one last year doing that, but it wasn't as protected. It did send up dozens of little babies this year though; real tiny things.
Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread :)
About the green macrorrhizos; your mention of the "dozens of little babies" confirms my ID as that is exactly what the green macrorrhizos produces! So many are produced that I usually call the plant the "common macrorrhizos".
Cool, thanks. Yeah for weeks there was nothing, then suddenly they popped up like weeds - at first I thought they were the running EE that's taken over the lower boggy potion of the yard. I pulled a few up and potted them, will see how they grow. They're beautiful once they get big, might have to use them as annuals. What exactly are they hardy too zone-wise? I'm still wondering how I even got the thing, I can't recall where I obtained it.
Phicks, how big was your BG when you put in the ground in may? I put mine in the ground in July and it was slow to take off. Maybe most of the growth is taking place underground. A colocasia called Black Runner that I planted at the same time, has been growing much much faster. I expected more growth from the B. Giant. I have fertilized mine heavily and given it lots of water. Next year expect huge gains.
i put it in the gound in july it was in a pot before that it was maybe 12 inches tal when i got it
TropiSocal_dave, mine was the same way. Never really took off - put out a single new leaf per two weeks or so, real slow. I've potted it until it's larger and then I'm going to try it back in the ground again.
