the sixth storm

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

the storm was gone. after three agonizing days of swirling clouds, torrential downpours, and racing wind, it sluggishly retreated to the west leaving its mark upon the formerly thirsty land.
he knew what was coming. yes. he knew what would happen.... the signs surrounded him; they taunted him with their ominous tidings. the sun burned through the clouds, and peeked at the earth, heating the ground and water, making it mix with the air. the smell of rain and pluth mud choked him. when he took a breath his lungs filled with water, disguised as life-giving air. every nook and cranny, every dent and depression was full of it, that legacy of the 6th named storm. soon it would all disappear, or so it would seem. if it did, it would wrap everything in a soggy wet blanket, painting the leaves with a mosaic of orange rust. if it were not disguised as air it would be a breeding ground. it would transform puddles into nests full of sqirming larvae of blood sucking devils. they would grow up only to hinder him in the fight against the fungus, that orange mosaic covering the formerly lush green leaves.

ok if you havent guessed yet, i am having trouble with rust. i sprayed last week with neem oil, but its still there, and spreading. so what should i do. im pretty sure the rains from fay didnt help much either. would it be ok for me to spray with Daconil??

Mulberry, FL

I use Bayleton spray either early morning or late in evening welcome to my world you have to have sticker to add to it or it just runs off and is wasted. southern ag makes it called systematic fungiside with bayleton they also have the sticker spreader good luck you will be doing it every 2 weeks

PS--I guess waxing poetic about rust is a good way to keep a positive attitude. LOL Well, at least you are practicing what appears to be a possible potential for writing. :-)

well it seems like rust will be the least of my problems in a few days, as Hanna will hit near me as nearly a category one or two. the last significant hurricane here that was a direct hit was "The Great Sea Island Storm of 1893". if this hurricane hits Hilton Head Island or Daufuskie Island (or anywhere else in Beaufort County), the effects would terrrible. Hilton Head could almost be cut in half by a major hurricane. most of the island is less than 9 feet above sea level. my house is only 14 feet above sea level and 12 miles inland from the ocean, but 1/2 mile from the marsh. if we get hit, some places would not ever be above water again. please keep us in your prayers that we will be spared major damage, because most of the buildings around here are around 30-40 years old. we are topographically very similar to FL; flat with many wetlands and swamps. if we do get hit, it would also be really bad on the economy because we depend on tourists from ohio, new york and pennsylvania, and we have taken a huge hit from the bad real estate market. many people would not be able to pay for repairs. i may be, and probably am over reacting, but we are just not used to having hits from hurricanes, because of our geographical position on this little inland curve of the coast line. we also have some of the highest tides on the east coast

there is less than 1/4 a mile of land above sea level between two marshes on Hilton Head.... i guess i am just asking for y'all to keep us in your thoughts and prayers because a hurricane here would be different than florida simply because we aren't as used to them.
