Opinions Please Boy or Girl???

OK, so I've flipped these poor babies so many times they are probably starting to get a complex... They both have thumb width gaps between the two little bones above their vent. So flipping makes me think they are girls.

I'm still nervous about the waddles and comb that are developing so much more prominently on Millie. She's younger than the other and still has WAY bigger waddles and comb than Tillie.

These are silkie / bantam cochin cross.

Millie squirms a lot when you stick the camera in her face... so these are the best I can get... Lemme know what you think... is Millie a boy or a girl?

Another angle of Millie... can you see the waddles from this angle?

[Just for fun...] Tillie says... "How's my hair?"

I sent tf a RIR roo based on its enormous red comb--it was a pullet. In general if it is a pullet with a large comb it will flop over while the roos will stay upright. However my dominant Delaware pullet's comb is as big and upright as the Marans roo's. I wonder if anyone has looked into hen dominance and combs? Maybe like a dominant female dog that lifts its leg?

i usualyjust tell by there combs or tail fether but as catscan said it is not a 100% garantee

I don't know anything about rose combs. Thats the other thing.... This is definitely a rose comb. So do hens and roosters get rose combs of equal size or should a female comb still be smaller or any other defining characteristic?

Thanks again for all your thoughts and opinions. Millie was picked by my DH, so he's getting a bit bummed at the thought of her turning out to be a roo afterall.

Lucky, what about their tail feathers and would that apply to silkies? They both have tail feathers that are like little poof-balls.

OK, its been awhile since I posted on this one... here are some new pics of the chicks. I believe Tilly is now 6 weeks old and Millie is 5 weeks old. Millie has always had a much more defined comb and waddles and they are just getting more and more defined, while Tillie still has nothing to speak of.

Here's a picture of them together...

Here's a dumb question... I've read you guys talking about how red a chicken's comb and waddles are. Millie's are constantly changing. One moment I look and they are a pale reddish pink another time I look they are blazing blood red. I almost think they change with his/her mood or comfort level. For example, I think they are pale when he/she has just been picked up and is not comfortable, but they get redder and redder the more comfortable he/she gets in my hands.

hmm, i dunno about the dumb question, i have YET to hear a dumb one... the paleness of the comb, once it reddens, should indiacte their overall health. it will turn with illness, injury, molting, or just not laying...

i htink Tillie inhertied more of a silkie comb. bantam cochins have straight combs, but Millie got the allele [gene] for the rose comb, and yes, the hens are almost as large as the males, rose combs are my favorite...

i have bantam cochins with straight combs, though it makes sense some would have another type of comb. my blue laced with the biggest comb [of the blues] is a hen, and she was the first to lay. so combs are also a sign of maturity.

my only cochin roo has a HUGE straight comb.

i think you have two lovley pullets, but only time will tell.

Thanks tf! I appreciate the response. I'll pass on the information to my husband. Millie is his and he's trying not to get too bummed out thinking that s/he is a roo. Since we live in the city, we'll have to get rid of her/him if it is...
