What a great article. I have had at least 6 hummingbird nests this year that I have found. I have stopped destroying spider webs since I discovered that is what hummingbirds use to make their nests. I can attest that everything does pass through the body. I find the majority of the nests by following the poop trail. I can't believe it but I discovered a new nest last week by this method. I was sitting in the front courtyard and was buzzed and then my morning paper was pooped on by who I do not know. Who is doing the pooping? Mom, or babies. I looked up, which is about 40 feet and my 66 year old eyes some days can see that far, LOL, and there was a new nest attached to the hanging climbing fig on the upper patio overhang. They are always in the climbing fig vine. This is late in the season but the males appear to be more frisky this year. I had such a great year in flowers I never did get my new hummingbird feeders out. But one thing I noticed this season is they loved the waterfall into the Koi pond. They would actually stand on the flat rock and take a sponge bath. The dragon flies watched. Can it get any better?
