Have two pullets graduating to free range today and got to looking at one which had been pretty homely. Lo AND Behold- she's laced!! Those funny white streaks are actually growing in to full fledged (sorry) lacing. Somewhat like a silver laced wyandotte, but the lace pattern is the exact opposite. Black legs, black comb (just reddening), black body with black neck feathers perfectly laced around the perimeter with silver. I can hardly contain myself(weeeee!! yipppeeeee!!!) I really need to get a working camera. This has me eying that silver, black, and green-tailfeather roo in an entirely different light! Has anyone seen this before?
Laced hen!! Black ground white lacing?
I'd love to see a photo of that!
I'm working on the pics. Looked at her again this morning (everyone made themselves scarce yesterday in the heat) and saw she has a white edging to her COMB, of all things. It's just starting to blush and will surely turn red at some point, but I have never (in my admittedly inexperience) seen or heard the like. Some of our black sex-link crosses start out with black combs, but black and white has me stumped.
