I'm new to Brugmansias. I have one plant (an Angel Trumpet "Cherub" from Burpee) that has done very well. So far it has gone through four bloom cycles this year with an abundant number of pink flowers.
I'm assuming Brugmansia are "feast or famine" plants - they blooming profusely, drop all their flowers, go through a recovery phase and then bloom again. My question - are there varieties of Brugmansia that have less flowers but bloom continuously during warm weather?
Continuous Bloomer?
Inca Sun is sold as a contineous bloomer.. But I doubt they are talking a hot FL summer.......Ollie and Shredded White seem pretty long blooming..once they start here

If you want a sure fire all time Bloomer in Florida, the Bad Angel is an absolute must, you will not be disappointed, she takes all what Florida throws at her, Heat, Humidity, Rain even the hot sun we are having, i have been growing her for two years now and she is never without Blooms, by the time the last bloom drops, the new buds are ready to open. The most time she is without actual Blooms is 5 to 7 days.
These Pictures are from yesterday Aug 20, 2009
burgele, where did you get Bad Angel? It sounds like it would do well here in Central Texas. We have plenty of heat and humidity. LOL I couldn't find any information on it except that the hybridizer was Alice Harris.
Very pretty and I'm anxious to hear more myself.
Me too!
Betty, i bought my Bad Angel from Alice Harris, this is one amazing Brug that will not disappoint you, as you know we have been pretty stormy here in Florida for the past week, with heat, high humidity and extreme winds, but that baby is doing great, she was blooming since last Sunday and still as of today see the picture i took this morning.
Thanks for getting back with that info. I've sent her an e-mail and will see what happens.
Nice blooms Christa! Mine always seems to have something blooming or about to bloom, even though it's small. I'll take a picture when the leaves aren't so lacy. Darn those green worms/caterpillars!
Another that blooms in abundance here is Inca Sun. The flowers aren't the quality of Bad Angel's but there is a lot of them on that plant too.

I am so pleased to have found this thread on such beautiful and bountiful brugs. I have so many plants that are just now beginning to bloom and I am very disappointed with their lack of performance. I keep mine watered and fertilize twice weekly, but some just will not respond. I'm rethinking keeping quite a few as the over wintering and daily upkeep is just too much for non-performing brugs. High on my list of must have brugs. is MEM and Painted Lady. They have been in constant bloom since the end of June; MEM has been the most consistent with one flush after another. As one flush is about to end, another is there waiting to take center stage. Here is how MEM has looked for a solid two months.
Tussee
You all have some fantastic bloomer; I’ll be adding these all to the buy them when I can find them list for next year.
My MEM does a flush like that in the spring. In the heat of summer it's just 3-4 at a time, but being as big as the blooms are, it's still makes for a bright spot.

Hi Tussee
This is my first year for growing brugs and also my first year with DG. I have gotten a wealth of information from other members here as well and really enjoy this site...still the novice gardener though...lol..... I was given some cuttings from a local DG member (Vancouver Island) and mine look the same as yours, but certainly haven't had any kind of flushes that you've had...( I didnt know what kind they were) We've had very wacky weather here, with snow in April??..gosh thats unheard of here normally, and most of the plants I have were very slow this year. I lost about 80% of the seedlings that I had started earlier this year, as I put them out early, but the cold weather destroyed them.
Lately we've had higher than normal temps..getting close to the high 30C and sometimes even 40's. Its been raining for the last couple of days, and what a relief! I didn't have a clue what mine where called, so Im glad to see a picture of someone else's. I live in a condo and don't have a lot of room for over wintering, and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for this. I have a huge deck, with a covered area, but don't have any space inside. I think it would be too warm anyways to overwinter. Any suggestions from others would be greatly appreciated.
Ive overwintered many things from last year on the deck and just kept them covered etc, but we've been getting very different winters compared to the last few years lately. Normally it may snow lightly once, and melts right away, but last winter was really a snowy one here. Look forward to hearing from those that can help.
Thanks
Tussee and bsewall,
beautiful brugs. Mine never look that good. Of course I don't have those varities. If you guys prune this fall I would love cuttings. I wanted to add that from what I can see in the pictures of both your gardens, they are wonderful.
Linda
I have one brug seedling by Paul Phillips (not available yet) that is truly a continuous bloomer. It has never been without a bud or flower since its first flush earlier this spring. It bloomed all through the hot summer and is super bug resistant too. Hardly seems to need fertilizer- but when you do, it really flushes. It puts out leaves ,growth, and flowers all at the same time.

Lenette, has it stayed as healthy as it looks? Are you trialing it for Paul? I love the shape of the bloom.
I grew it from a seed of Paul's and sent him a cutting. It is going strong for me and still healthy and green -we have been getting lots of rain here lately, so its real happy right now lol. I went ahead and put her in the ground now. It even kept a few flowers on even through Tropical Storm Faye which took quite a few limbs down from trees in our yard. It has a nice form, she/he seems to make periodic flushes and keeps on flowering in between the larger 'flushes'. My dh calls her a hootchie lol.
LOL. If it stays healthy and blooms that well, it could be a good addition to a Brug collection.
