I have observed intelligent behavior in Magpies, which amazed me. I once observed a Magpie hide a peanut under a fallen leaf, in a large open area, of the yard. Shortly after we received four inches of snow. The next day the Magpie returned, landed withing inches of the leaf, and probed the snow with its beak for only a few seconds to retrieve the peanut.
