Hello from Orange Park, Florida

Orange Park, FL(Zone 9a)

Just joined Dave's Garden yesterday. What an awesome opportunity to be able to talk with so many people who share a common interest. I look forward to transforming my little piece of Heaven into something beautiful. Happy gardening to you all.

Hey Shirley,
I know I welcomed you on the FL forum already...haven't totally lost it. lol
I just wanted to say a big ole Welcome here too :-)

libellule,

Thank you for your welcome. I am all over this site. I go places and then can't remember how to get back to them. LOL Hopefully, I will get the hang of it. =)

Hey Shirley,
I had that problem at first so, I saved a ton of forums to my favorites and those are the ones I see first when I log in. It helps alot having them saved as favorites.
There are so many more that I don't even see, but want to. I just don't have time to read that many forums.

" I go places and then can't remember how to get back to them" Boy, I can relate to that. I do that all the time. But then you find all sorts of neat things.
BTW, Welcome, Shirley, from south Jersey.

hell and welcome to daves garden from upstate new york.

Orange Park, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you all for your warm welcomes. I am sitting at the computer this am and listening to the wind howl in the background. Fay is just south of Clay County and is letting us know she is there. I am grateful that Fay never turned into a hurricane. I remember Dora back in 1964, quite frightening. Well, I am off to new discoveries at Dave's garden, ( if only I could remember how to get there) hee-hee.

Hello youngershirl, I, too, am relatively new and was warmly welcomed and wanted to reciprocate the warmth I was shown. This simply has to be one of the best sites I've come to know. So far, no body has screamed at me for possibly posting on the wrong forum. The advice and personal experiences shared with me and others has been so helpful. You'll enjoy the site so much. Thank you leeflea51, I appreciate the welcome. I am still trying to figure out the site and how to get back to places I have been. There is just so much to see, but I can say I am loving every minute of it. Happy gardening!☺

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

Hello youngershirl. wanted to greet you as warmly and I was greeted. Yes, this is a wonderful site. I see that the greetings you have received are from some of the nice people who greeted me: Herbie43, libellule and I see I have also greeted you but will again. The people are so willing to share and help. Just ask. I'm still doing so. Happy gardening to you, too, and send me a thread anytime. My sleeping pattern is helter skelter. Some nights I sleep 4-5hrs, others not at all. Warmly, Leeflea51

Good morning leeflea51,

Thanks again for the welcome, and I agree some very nice and helpful people on this web site. I can't wait until spring when I can get out and start planting. Still not much of a plan, but I figure by then I will have picked enough brains and shared enough photos of my yard that a plan will be in place.

I understand mixed up sleeping patterns, I used to have the same problem. I went for a sleep study last year and found out I have sleep apnea. I started using the C-Pap machine and now for the most part I sleep like a log. I actually find it hard now to sleep without it. It took forever to get used to, I will tell you that. Something over your nose is not the easiest thing to deal with, but, like I said, now I can't sleep without it. Take care of yourself, we do need our rest. Have a blessed day.

youngershirl and others, I need to have a blessed day. Have been on the phone with ATT getting help with blocking some vulgar, porn e-mails. I'm no prude and am not averse to adult porn but my e-mail box was literally overflowing. Since I'm new to all this, I couldn't understand all the ATT tech person was saying but understood enough to go to the block certain e-mails. I just hope I haven't blocked all. Going now and take a Xanax. will report back later. must take a break. However, would appreciate any advice regarding the matter I just stated. Leeflea51 just send me a personal d-mail as I've no idea which would be the appropriate forum to discuss such matters and all I need today is to be screamed at.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Always something.

Good Morning Shirley,

Glad you like Daves. I also think this site is truly awesome but find it quite addictive. I am constantly logging on looking for information and tips for every plant I grow, intentions are to snag the info and get busy. Instead I find links and threads that hold my attention for at least an hour and sometimes longer. It's funny now when I come home with a new plant because the first thing I do is head for DGs and see what others have to say about it, an Aloha Lily is the only thing I've been unable to learn how to grow.

I've met some neat people thru this website and have an ongoing correspondence with many others. I find gardeners make good friends and I'm sure you're going to enjoy all the advantages being a member of DG offers.

Thanks Yolie. I look forward to logging in and seeing what everyone has to say. There are so many sites to look at. I love looking at the pictures and seeing the beautiful gardens others have. Gives me something to aspire to. My only problem is once on, I don't want to get off. It is almost addictive. LOL

Did you suffer alot of damage from Fay? The only thing we had was alot of debris from Pines and alot of standing water. Can't complain, my yard tends to dry out pretty quick, so the rain, even though there was alot, was a welcome necessary evil.

I am excited about my yard, perhaps with all the knowledge and suggestions I can get from this site, I to will have a garden to be proud of.

Thanks for the welcome, and keep in touch.

hi youngershirl, just got up for the second time. Owen woke me as he was leaving to run errands. How are things in Orange Park? We have just finished with the remnants of TS Fay. Lots of rain and a little breeze. that's all . take care. Leeflea51

Orange Park, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi Leeflea,

We faired very well. Mostly standing water and pine tree debris in the backyard. My son and I mowed the front yard yesterday, but the back is still way to wet to mow. We are supposed to have rain everyday this week, I know the mosquitoes are loving this. LOL I am just looking for some cooler weather with way less humidity. I was born in Florida, but I think I am a northerner at heart. hee-hee.

Glad you didn't suffer in ill affects from Fay. I thought she would never leave. I don't think she should be invited back again, she doesn't know when to leave. LOL

Oh well, I have been on this computer for the last couple of hours, so I better get up and get busy. This darn thing is so addictive.

Hope you have a great day.

Shirley,

I don't live far from you, I'm across the bridge in SE Jax, just off Old St. Augustine Rd. I found Dave's by accident when googling and it's become a very important part of my life. I would feel downright deprived if I couldn't be part of it now.

I am also hoping to end up with a great looking yard using knowledge gained here. Another big plus I've found is the willingness of so many gardeners to share the bounty of their plants. I try to return the favors, but how do you give a plant to someone who seems to already have everything and causes you to shrivel with envy when looking at their yards? I visited a certain gentleman in Jax, that everyone seems to know; went to just pick up one plant and returned home with my car filled with dozens of pots and cuttings. (God Bless You, Jeremy!) I did have a couple of things he'd wanted, took them to him and darned if I didn't return home a second time with a car loaded down so next time I'll just have to bake bread for him. Now you just don't meet folks like that very often. Everything is growing good and hopefully I'll be able to pass the good deed on to someone just starting out.

Fay just gave me too much water and plenty of branches and debris scattered all over the yard. The ground is still too soggy to do much clean-up and when I started walking around to dump extra water out of pots and to check things out, I was attacked by fire ants. They're all over my front yard and I'll have to kill them off before doing anything else. My neighbors had many problems with downed trees, blocked roads, lack of power, messed up septic system, etc. I am thankful I got off with just a messy yard and fire ants.

We'll have to get together sometime soon.

youngershirl, glad things are ok there. When Katrina hit New orlean and the gulf coast, It made a bee-line this far north into N.E. Mississippi. We had sustained winds of 45-50mph for several hours. Most unusual, as we are about 350 miles from the Gulf. My family and I were visiting friends in New Orleans in 1969 when Camille hit. I was only 12 but I remember how afraid I was. Took us days to get out of the city. Yes, this is addictive. Better, though, than some others i can think of. Til later, Lee

Dear Lee,

I think I am going to have to turn my computer off just to get something done in the house. I am turning into a computer junkie. LOL

I remember Dora back in '64. Very frightening. Glad Fay decided to remain calm. There were so many without power here, and so much wind damage, I can't imagine what would have happened had we been hit with a hurricane. I don't want to find out either.

Have a great day,

Shirley

you, too shirley. lee
