September gardening quick note
BUT the Farmer's Almanac tells us:
1-2: most barren period, best for killing pests or doing chores
3-5: above-ground crops, flowers, grains, hay, and forage crops
6-7: excellent for above ground crops including leafy vegetables. start seedbeds.
8-9: clear fence rows, woodlots, and fields. No planting.
10-11: Above ground crops planted now will do well.
12-13: Poor planting days. Kill pests.
14-15: First day, aboveground crops. Second, root crops. Either, vines.
16-17: Anything planted now will do poorly.
18-20: Plant root crops.
21-22: Seeds planted now will rot in ground.
23-24: Fine planting for root crops. Also plant seed beds and flower gardens.
25-30: Barren period. Kill pests or do chores.
I find it odd that there are variations. I guess it's that one is solarcentric and the other terracentric. Anyone know which, offhand? I need to scout back for the explanation; I know it's in this forum somewhere.
edited for misspelling.

interesting! i will have to do some research myself and see. it's strange 2 or 3 days for seed planting would make such a difference.
I am planning to order the 2009 Biodynamic planting calendar by Maria Thun when it's released. It will be interesting to see what it suggests...
yes it will be interesting...hope you'll share what you find out!
Absolutely!

Been using the "Gardening By The Moon" calendar for several years, absolutely swear by it! (Can be purchased @ gardeningbythemoon.com, price is: $14.95) You have your choice of growing seasons, short, medium or long, according to your zone. Site contains excellant information on the method as well, explains everything in detail: I've found it an invaluable asset in regards to gardening in Zone 5.
