What are some good types of basil? I have sweet basil.
Basil
lime basil ... i love it! i made some herbal vinegars with lime basil and lemon balm that turned out great.
kelly
Genovese basil for that intense Italian basil experience. Lemon basil and Mexican cinnamon basil are varieties that are very good too.
A lot of my favorites are in this DG article I wrote on using basils as "edible landscaping." http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/752/
Thanks Critter :o)
Note for any that don't know: all (well I hope all) the articles on herbs are in the resourse sticky at the top of the forum. It's a great sticky.
That link in the sticky takes you to all articles that include the word "herbs" in the text as well as those with "herbs" as a keyword. Terry thought it might be too much to keep up with to include all the herb-related articles as individual links... too bad, because I think it would make them easier to find if the titles were in the sticky. And some are not obvious from their titles, like the herb garden design (using chimney flu liners) that's part of Jan's article on garden design software: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/520/
I had an article on the schedule today about saving seeds from your favorite basil plants for next year: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1553/
Thai basil... throw it in your stir fry. Looks pretty too.
Thanks critter. I'll do a search now too to be sure I find all the articles.
Be careful, though! I didn't worry about mine going to seed (sweet basil). I really have plenty now. Reeeeeally. When I mow the neighborhood smells like pesto.
(Believe me, I'm not really complaining!)
lol. i'd like to have that "problem" soon.
I had 8 different basils on the go this summer including lettuce leaf (O. basilicum) which has really huge leaves, purple (O. basilicum 'Osmin Purple') and lemon. I can't wait to try the lime, seed of which I've just ordered and ginger too - don't know if that will be much good though. I love ginger AND basil but do they go together?
:-)) Rosie
Tulsi tea is made of holy basil and ginger. Delicioso iced!!!
