CLOSED: All Milkweeds Wanted Please!

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

Hi all,
I want ALL the milkweeds listed in Plant Files. All I have is Asclepias Curassavica. I want:
Asclepias tuberosa
Asclepias Asperula
Asclepias Viridis
and ALL the others. I want plants, cuttings, roots and seeds. Thank-you all in advance

Columbus, OH

I have Ice Ballet seed pods on my plants now, but they're not quite ready. You're welcome to a ton of seed when it's ready for a SASE.

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

Cool thanks. Do the seeds need a cold period?

Columbus, OH

Not to my knowledge...

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

What zone are you in?

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

What is SASE?

Celina, TN(Zone 6b)

SASE is a self addressed stamped envelope...
I have some Asclepias tuberosa [orange butterfly weed] seeds that I just gathered this morning. I will be happy to send for postage.

Ok. So if I send you a D-mail with my address you will send them?

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

I want Asclepias Tuberosa seeds. Do you have cuttings or small plants? What milkweeds do you have?

Bensenville, IL(Zone 5a)

I will have seed from Ascelpias sullivanti in a few weeks. I might also be able to dig up some small seedlings. This is a northern, moist prairie plant whose range extends into Oklahoma. I don't know how it will do in your area of Texas. LMK.

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

Yes it will becuse I have 1 seedling of Asclepias Sullivanti that is 3 inches tall. I grew it from seed. I want some of your seedlings because they are more established so when I recieve them and plant them they will grow faster. Asclepias Sullivanti grows in zones 4-9, I am in zone 10, just 1 zone away. I want seedlings more than seeds. Thank-you for helping.

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

I want seedlings, cuttings, and seeds of Asclepias Sullivanti and any other milkweed that you have. Do you want me to send you my address through a D-mail?

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Seedlings are harder to transplant. The taproot is huge, if you break it your plant dies. The taproot is about 3 times longer than the plant is tall.

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

I have a Green Thumb. I still want them please.......! As long as you get most of the taproot the plant will be fine. It "is" a "weed".

A SASE is where you send the person with the seeds an envelope, most prefer the bubble envelopes. Inside you include a label with your address on it and enough postage in stamps (usually $.70 min.) for the sender to return to use. You can recycle envelopes several times by removing old stamps and putting new labels over the old ones. That way, whoever is generous enough to share their seeds will not have to the postage also.

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh......Thanks..Do you have milkweeds?

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Only the one you have at the moment

Los Fresnos, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh.....Cause I want all the Milkweeds except Asclepias Curassavica, I have that one.........If anyone with milkweeds has some please tell me.Thanks,
Danny

Do not send seeds to this person unless you get money up front!

He's proven several times that he's not going to pay postage on things he's received.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

As a rule, you should always wait for a SASBE unless you have offered to pay postage.

WOW, just read his rebuttal on his feedback. Certainly has nerve. He asks for seeds and when someone responds, he expects you to pay because "you offered".

His page is still active.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Okay thanks for the info.... Ronna

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Admin just posted on one of his other threads, that it's active for 2 months, that he's been asked to leave and not come back for a couple years. I think he has unfinished trades yet too.

go read her post on that other thread, all the milkweeds of the world.

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

This guy dmailed me and pestered the daylights out of me for some of my asclepias tuberosa. He told me he had seen on a thread that I had some. I offered seeds if my plants produced any but he argued that he wanted plants and why couldn't I dig some up for him. I explained several times that I had just planted them last fall and, therefore, they aren't big enough to divide. He was tough to get rid of.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

He is a determined little bugger to put butterfly plants in his garden for this fall.

Bless his pea pickin heart.

He's gone now though.

(Zone 1)

Just lurking and reading his posts, he sounded to be knowledgeable about milkweeds to some extent but also sounded young and maybe a bit challenged. Hopefully in a few years he will be more mature and return to DG. I wonder if his parents even knew he had bought a two month subscription to this site. Just from the few posts I read, it sounds like he's a handful.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Reading his first posts I got a feeling he was young but then when I read this one, I started thinkiing wolf in lamb's disguise. LOL

OMG!! I can't believe he wrote that!! Ive been lurking too. EEK!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Yeah, that one kind of floored me,

(Zone 1)

Wow! That is a bit disconcerting! His comment there makes me wonder if he really is only 12 or 13!

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

He's either only 12 or 13 or someone who's a little on the scary side.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Amen to the scary side no matter the age.

Melfa, VA(Zone 8a)

I sent a message to this person a while back in response to his request for milkweed seeds. He also kept wanting plants when I know the plants would never ship and remain viable...at least for those he wanted...all of the milkweeds that grow here even though they were wild. I personally love irises as well as other plants ( sure wish I knew someone that could tell me how to root a cutting from a tea rose I bought years ago and is still just hanging on!!!). However, my past work has all been involved with small mammals...a mammalogist. During that research, i did have to know sci. names of those plants we encountered in woodland environments. He expected me to determine the species of each plant that I would send. As for milkweeds...they don't grow in the forest! Needless to say it would have taken me a deal of time to key them out. I know they are all species of milkweeds, but I do not know which. I would have been happy to send him the seeds for a SASE but that did not suit him either.
As a former JrHigh and HS teacher for many years and being much involved with students, after a couple of emails, it was my impression that English is NOT his first language and he, I expect, is much older than he first seems. I would NEVER give him my address or put it on an envelope in return. Neither my phone number or any other way in which he could contact me personally would be available!
I do NOT trust this person!

Amen to that estrail1rider! Because of the possibility of someone like this having access to it, I hesitated for quite a while before putting my address in the address exchange. But, fortunately, this guy is the exception to the rule on DG--lot's of really nice folks on here. He fits the old "one bad apple" saying. I also agree with you on his age and that English isn't his first language (I spent my career as an editor). He struck me as being older than 12 or 13 too. He's quite brassy. I'm glad he's gone. He made himself quite a pest to deal with.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

He also became quite a pest to me. Although I used to trade a lot, I have no active tradelist published. He picked me up from a photo I submitted in Plant Files for the Pineland Milkweed.

Last spring I had already shared a lot of the plants with a Katrina victim and I failed to get any seeds when they flew.

I told the guy I didn't have any seeds and he still kept writing to me. I almost tempted to give him my tradees name, but something made me hesitate and I didn't. Good thing too, she didn't need to be bothered by this guy.

I had told him I didn't have any seeds and wouldn't until next spring and he still kept writing. I finally just ignored him and he quit. If I had, I would not have sent him any without SASE. He was too new on a temporary membership.

Good thing to run across this thread.

Molly
