Confirm EA Hoya IDs, please

Hi all!

Last night and today I hit the local Lowe's and Home Depot and found 4 Hoyas! ^_^ I know EA doesn't have the best record for tagging plants of any kind correctly, so I want to make sure they're right. Two are correct, I think, and two I have no idea about. Would you mind confirming or correcting the IDs for me, if possible? Thanks so much!

This is tagged Hoya polyneura, and I think it's right. Can't tell when was the last time this one saw water, but it certainly wasn't recently. Just after this picture was taken, it got a nice shower, though!

I also think this one is right, but I've never seen one of these in person before. Hoya lacunosa variegated. It's got two peduncles, one with flowers open, and they have the look and fragrance of my regular lacunosa, but still, I like to KNOW for sure that the name is correct. The variegation varies from a lot to almost none. Haven't checked to see if possibly some vines are regular lacunosa, with no variegation on the entire individual vine.

Nice plant. Wow they got this one right this time. Its a very nice polyneura.

Yup...they look right. However, the lacunosa is not variegated. That clone simply has MORE of the silvery specks than others. Some H. pubicalyx cultivars do too - I know there is a Royal Hawaiian Purple and a Pink Silver that are really blotchy. There is also a clone of H. carnosa that is really really blotchy...called 'Grey Ghost'. I notice that my plant (lacunosa) puts out some vines that have no blotches at all. So...it is simply H. lacunosa....no variegation involved (but I really don't know what causes the blotches.... Mark, where are you???).

This is tagged as Hoya 'Bilobata' and underneath that it says Hoya tsangii. Two species names on the same tag? Hmmm... And somewhere in the back of my mind, I recall reading that DS-70 is the same as tsangii. Can anyone tell what this really is?

An unopened peduncle and some leaves from the bilobata/tsangii.

This is tagged Hoya kentiana. I have a kentiana, but the leaves on it feel much thicker than this one. No flowers or peduncles in sight.

The leaves on it are fairly long, too. Here is a shot of a couple leaves with my hand for a bit of size comparison.

Wow Amy..Nice Hoyas!! Our fancy nurseries around here never even carry and hoyas that nice looking!

WOW! Nice plants you have there. I check out HD and Lowes on a weekly basis, and I've never caught a hoya there yet other than carnosa. Very healthy looking plants. Enjoy!

Thank you, Ric! I must admit I was a bit disappointed. A friend found a "shooting stars" Hoya tagged as fishtail, so I hoped I'd find one of those hanging around, but I didn't. That's okay, though! I'm really tickled with these!

Thank you for the information, AlohaHoya! I'll leave it as simply lacunosa and enjoy it as it is! I have two 'Pink Silver' plants and one is very heavily variegated. Just gorgeous!

Hi Nancy! It's a very lucky break to find anything other than the rope Hoyas around here, but if I time it just right, there are good ones every now and then. They're usually so water-starved or mealy bug infested that I don't get even the good ones, but these were all fairly well taken care of, except the polyneura, and I could tell that a bit of TLC and some regular waterings were all it needed!

I read the thread about kentiana vs. wayettii, and I have to admit, I wanted it regardless because it's so pretty, but I do hope it's something other than kentiana, since I already have that one. If it is kentiana, though, I know someone who was recently looking for kentiana cuttings because he lost his, so either way, I'm happy to have it!

Thanks, imadigger! I'm on cloud 9 because of these! It's been ages since they had anything good (but if you're looking for pothos they have THREE racks of huge hanging baskets! LOL)! I was super lucky to find these!

You know how jealous I am Rain!!! I better get to Lowes. I wouldn't think they would have them while the weather is this hot. I am full of envy..........not a gracious way to be (LOL)

LOL Gail! Well, you know I'll share with ya! This is the biggest Hoya haul I've ever found at once. Maybe now is a good time to look.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am going to start looking early as we rarely get ours until the weather gets cooler. That is fantastic!

Let me know if you find something! Maybe they sent all the Hoyas here where it's a little cooler? *shrug*

H. sp. DS-70 was once called H. burtoniae and then it was called H. tsangii. It is actually H. sp. DS-70. (Sigh :))

Lovely plants, and a great score! Congrats. I wouldn't be too free with the watering can on that polyneura though. I killed one before I found out they like to get completely dry between waterings, and no sun. The rule is that they like to be grown cool, but since I don't have varying temperatures in my house I translated that into a bright location, but no sun and to grow it dry. My cuttings from last year are growing very well now.

Amy, Wow! You hit the EA jackpot! Our Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart and Target have not had any Hoyas this year! I've been saying they are sending them north, NE, West and NW, LOL. The Englemann Greenhouses where EA are grown is right here in Central Florida near Orlando, you'd think they would keep a few for us here in Florida! LOL.

Great finds! I have that H. lacunosa and someone here on the Hoya forum said it is H. lacunosa speckled leaf so that's what I've been calling it. Nice Polyneura! I had a small one that I think came in a trade with Gail but it did not survive ... my fault entirely, I was way too lenient with the water!

Your other one looks like H. wayetti ... if you give it some sun the leaves will get the dark edges. You will love the ds-70! That one blooms continuously for me and I really like the fragrance as long as it's outside. During the winter I brought some indoors when we were predicted to have a couple of real cold nights and the fragrance was overpowering in my small house! My pool area smells so heavenly in the evening with the fragrance of lacunosa, wayetti and ds-70.

I guess EA is getting better- that was two out of four with the correct label (H. lacunosa, H. polyneura) and two almost right (DS-70 was called tsangii, like Carol says, wayetii is very similar to kentiana, only a collector would know).
Good haul!

I found a couple more hoyas at a local Stater Brothers grocery store again. Every so often they carry EA plants here. I never find them in Home Depots however. :-(

Marcy, try Target. A nursery friend tells me EA hasn't gotten into the west coast HD and Lowe's yet.
