Where can I buy full grown chickens that are less than one year old? I have a friends who's looking for a small flock of laying hens for her folks' birthday gift.
Thanks!!

Try craigslist for your area.
No luck on Craigslist, without driving 450 miles. Any other ideas???
Check with your local feed stores, take a dive in the country to the country stores and read the message boards.
Any Amish communities nearby? I know there are some in Wisconsin, Minn, and Indiana... They will often part with a few for a good price.. Feed stores may be quicker... Luck!
I know that on many of the chicken forums they have a buy sell area for chickens. You could post a wanted ad or just watch for a post for chickens around your area. There are also people that are willing to ship older chickens, if you want to pay for the postage(which I hear is expensive).

What about the chicken show in Frankenmouth? I think it was in Sep or early Oct.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Please keep them coming if you think of, or hear of, any other ideas. ....In the mean time, I am checking out each of your suggestions. Cross your fingers for me!!

Fingers crossed for ya Glenda. Flea markets and auctions would be a good place. Also try the farm and ranch stores. Here we have Atwoods. And the lady that runs the poultry section was alot of help to me last year.
The chicken show in Frankenmuth was one of my thoughts. The people there raise show chickens and I am sure they have lots at home that aren't show quality. You can probably find the dates on the internet; I believe it is Bay City Poultry Club. I'm sending you a d-mail.
Kays,
I d-mailed you back! Thank you!! :)
