I can't recall if this was labeled longifolia or longiflora, I look up longifolia and there are photos out there of that and they are not this, I can't find photos of longiflora and that kind of matches....the flower stem on this is rediculously long. Foliage is nearly non exisitent, blue green, very narrow, so narrow they don't stand up (although it could use some more sun than it's getting) but if I were to elongate them they would be less than half the height of the flower, which is rediculously tall, did I say that already?
Zephyranthes longi....something or other
looking at the pic I can see how accurately longiflora descibes this plant, the flower starts about 3/4 of the way up the stalk, that's insane!
The flower does look like traubii but that flower stalk is way talller than any traubii I'm seeing on a search.
my camera hates whites :(
I measured, that flower is 17" tall. It took days for it to bloom, I kept checking on it expecting it to be open and it was just taller lol
they elongate if in shade, 'Batik' and 'Capricorn' and 'Bill Lee' and Z macrosiphon all do that as well as any other in too much shade when blooming here
apparently I can't ntype either this morning so will just resign myself to cut and pasted responses until tomorrow
=)
Wow, that's a real beauty! Thanks for sharing, Lynn and Debbie!
Now I want one...
Alexandra
Hey there Alexandra! I warn you....once you've had one rain lily....you must have more, you've been warned :o)
Lynn, I DO have one, and I'm increasing the numbers (Thank you Debbie!). I love bulbs of all kinds, and ever since I came to El Paso, the bulbs were consistently doing good, while other plants are "just hanging in there" or decided to dye on me... I guess it was quite hard for them to adjust to the first month (June) of extreme dryness.
I also watched your Hab thread, also beautiful flowers, and there's so much to learn.
Z. grandiflora (diagnosed by Debbie)
looks pretty "lush" there for El Paso
=)
waiting on rain here...my usual past time
I love my z. grandifloras, they are wonderful! you clearly have the sickness :)
Well, I'm happy I'm not alone in this "disease"!!!
Debbie, since I got back from Miami, it's like we have an automated irigation/sprinkler system! It pours every two days! Fascinating, after the first "shock month"! On weather.com, El Paso is on flood advisory. Now who told me that El Paso is desert?!
Now, I have to ask if Z. grandiflora goes dormant, and when. I want to liberate some of them into the garden, but they keep green. In Miami they were green all year round, so no previous experience here...
Wishing you rain for all the beauties! Hugs,
Alexandra
mine are dormant from about Nov to Feb---sometimes lose all their leaves, sometimes not
sounds like you've had more rain than me
=)
I'm more than willing to share the rain!
I'll take some rain!!!
I find I can move my grandifloras at any time and they don't mind one bit.
Thank you both for the info. I think I will wait for a bit lower temps, though, the days without rain still go up to 100 (in the shade)...
LOVE that last one Dale!
Nice to know it sin't always my fault the pic is bad :o)
Dale love all of them but especially well heck all of them!!
What everybody says about cameras and white! (I have tried to take pictures of one of my tropical hibiscus, that is white with a magenta eye, and most of the photos looked like I burned a hole in there!)
Wonderful, Dale!
