We went to the museum of natural history in Houston today, and just fell in love with the butterfly center there. I have been to butterfly exhibits before, but I have never been somewhere with this much diversity and where the butterflies were literally everywhere! They were posing all around us. In the middle was a patch of pentas...and it had to be covered with 20-30 butterflies all the time, right in front of us. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area. Here are some pics I snagged with my camera. I also got some good ones with my dad's fancier camera, but I will have to wait to get those pictures from him.

a visit to the Houston museum of nat history
I went a few years back. I wore a very vibrant flowered blouse and the butterflies kept following me and landing on me, very special visit for me.
Great pics Blue!
I love that place, I've been there 3 times and probably lost 5 lbs in that hothouse! But, it's well worth it!
Isn't it weird there are birds in there?
I recently visited a butterfly farm and had a similar experience, lots of incredibly exotic butterflies flying all around me. Some were flitting about from plant to plant and wouldn't stay still but it was wonderful to see them. Thanks for posting these.
That was the most amazing part of this, they were all just sitting everywhere, eating, flitting a little, but most were posing it seemed for everyone's pictures. I loved it!

Lovely!!! I keep telling myself I'll make time to drive to Houston just to see the Cockrell Butterfly Center...but I just never do. Bad thing is I'm in Houston a couple of times a month for work but we get there early and work late then head straight back home.
Thanks for sharing those wonderful butterfly photos. Am going to have to make it a point to go there on my next vacation!
On a good note...we do get the Malachites, Erato Heliconian and Banded Orange Heliconians here :o)
This is the ventral view of the BOH.
